Crazy deer hunt

Little to no wind this evening so I decided to hunt a stand on the edge of bedding thats east to get into. I was 5yds from my tree when a bedded doe 20yds away got up and ran. She came right back looked my way. Then just kept walking towards me. She walked up 3’ from me looking at me, sniffing. I was like wtf if she blind. She turns to walk away, I took my backpack off at normal speed grabbed an arrow and shot her at 10yds. She ran 30 and was done. Her eyes were slightly cloudy, so Im sure she was blind. I religiously walk to my stands with a arrow nocked. But today I put my quiver in my backpack. One of the crazier hunts I have had in my 32yrs of bowhunting. First trad kill, old Montgomery Ward Bruin from the early 70’s.

I restarted archery hunting this year after a 35 year hiatus. Only because I wanted to hunt antelope and have never drawing a rifle tag.
My oldest son talked me into it and we set on on September 1.
Sitting in a blind all day isn't really my thing, but I got to watch 5 antelope for an hour and a half before the big buck walked past at 38 yards.
Craziest thing I've ever seen. I took the shot and watched that buck jump out of the way of the arrow. It just jumped, turned on a dime and the arrow sailed by his shoulder. It was a kill shot except it wasn't.
It was my first ever antelope hunt, I think I'm hooked now. I can't wait until next September.
Congratulations on your harvest!

I’v never hunted antelope but yes they have the fastest reflexes. I think they hear the arrow coming same as deer. They will drop faster if the head is down. Iv had doe on edge at 20yds drop at the shot with my compound, always aim for the heart!!! This trad gear thing is a totally different ballgame, 160fps is very slow lol. Its. 10-15yd game, 20 is pushing it, unless you have some wind noise.

I shot split and instinctive from when l was a single digit kid(dad was a very good field archer) until l was 52. A miss in an estimated 150 8pt caused a paradigm shift. Training wheels. Sights. Peep. Release and l have never had the urge to do it again. Sold all the custom bows but still got a few old Bears, Roots, and a Damon Howat

This bow is really beat up. It was a cheaper entry level bow in its day. It stacks weight really fast compared to others Iv shot, its very demanding to shoot.. My buddy has a few Damon Howats, they are very nice !
