i never heard of anyone hunting yotes with a crossbow but why not, i would go for it. if nothing else you would have a new toy to play with. check your states reg's

Well I just thought that since they have moved into the ner-Citys,Spots like Gulf courses,Dumps,Parks and Waterways that you cant use a Gun because its Considered City. I was told you could hunt in these areas,But couldn't use a Firearm. Its an untaped resource! Not just Yotes but Fox&Coon But I know nothing about Crossbows and was hopeing this group could give me the Pros and Cons of such a weapon?? PLEASE!

Buy a good one off right away or you will be kicking yourself in the %#^. A lot of guys in my area are now using the Middleton crossbow (375fps) At 60yards my buddy has his arrow half way out of a foam deer target. I would say 70yards for a coyote with no problem but thats JMO.

Jeff- I have a 10 Point x-bow I use mainly for deer but I have also plugged a few fox. I wouldn't trade it for anything. The best part I like about the 10 Point is the Accu-draw system. Simply draw the string back just like reeling a fish in. I would definatly buy another 10 Point with Accu-draw if I was going to buy another. Just my .02 worth.

I think in City Limits that setup would be the cat meow! Put a 250 redlight on it for night huntin. so whitch is better a Crossbow Scope or Red Dot??

I like the crossbow scopes better myself. Set you zero and the other lines are alredy set in 10yard increments.

The barnett one has a little longer stroke, can use a little longer bolt, which will help down range. It is rated at 375fps, also. I like the look of one like that, used a 150 lb one, but not sure how fast the Parker one was, it was a Tornado, I think.

Tactical.20 was the barnett you used a barnett predator? If so very nice bow for the money but it is very heavy compared to the Middleton bow. I think the predator weights in around 9lbs.

I have heard this before but trust me; this is not the way it works. Just because you set your zero at any given yardage DO NOT expect the other lines to be set. It is possible, but not probable. I say this because all bows and crossbows are different. To expect brand X to shoot as hard as brand Y is just crazy. Thee weight of the arrow, the fletch configuration, the power stroke of the bow, and many other factors have an effect on the arrow / bolts impact point at longer ranges (just like different loads in rifle cartridges of the same caliber might shoot differently).
As far as shooting out to 70 yards with a crossbow concearns, I wouldnt. Just like I wouldnt shoot at a coyote with one of those 70 yard shotgun chokes.
I think the crossbow would be and could be a fun and different way to go. I jus hope you understand its limits.

Most companies have there own scopes set up for there bow. I realize there are many different factors for arrow flight but from my experience the scopes have worked as expected. The Barnett scope is the only one that was not true out of the 3 I have tried. At 40yards you could still use the 30yard crosshare. Thats were practise comes in to play and learning your weapon of choice. Would you adjust your clicks on a rifle and shoot out to 800yards without practice? I would hope not but thats JMO. 70yards on a coyote should not be a problem with the faster shooting crossbows but again JMO

So we agree that you cannot EXPECT the scope to be on at the longer yardages after you set your initial zero.
Thats all I was saying.
Would I do the "poke and hope" 800 yard shot?...NO, NEVER, NOT A CHANCE IN [beeep]. Neither would I shoot at any animal beyond 50 yards with any kind of archery equipment; (recurve, compound, or crossbow) without ABSOLUTE confidence I could make the shot.
Im not judging, or telling anyone what their limits are. Im simply giving my opinion based on my experience with all archery equipment.

This is just MY opinion with which you added a dollar, would buy you a snickers bar.

Thats all I was doing is giving MY opinion based on MY experience as well. My personal experience with excalibur and horton is there crosshairs out to 50 are bang on (me shooting)I have seen others shoot Middleton and Barnett out to 60 and 70yards with good accuracy. Both were shooting arrows at least half way threw those targets at that distance (both were using the block)so I would figure a yote at 70 does not stand a chance. I saw on a hunting show guys shoot out to 130 using a compound. I PERSONALLY would never shoot that distance with a bow but he said they practised out to 150 all yr so each to his own and make sure you practise and know your point of aim or tragectory.

Jeff,

Ive never personally predator hunted with a crossbow. I think it would be very fun and challenging. In my experience shots taken with any kind of archery equipment should only be made after some serious hands on experience with the particular bow you are using.
Dont just count on what the manufacturer claims or what you read on the internet, (Im sure you wouldnt).
Im no expert, but from what I know about crossbows I would keep my shots close (under 40 yards). Although I know shots can be made from a lot longer distances. The crossbow could be a very good tool to expand your hunting range where other weapons arent practical or safe.
Good luck.

Ive been useing CB's for the last 5 yrs due to surgery, been a avid bow hunter last 27yrs(compound,recurve and longbow) now with that said Ive owned 2 10points and two Excals sold the all ecept my Excal Y25 recurve, they were all awsome CB's,I kept the recurve due to the fact its easier to maintain when your out in the woods, sure its wider then a compound and you need more room for the limbs but try changeing a string in the woods on a compound(aint happing),anyway if you want to use a CB go try as many as you can and just remember cheep is just that - cheep and that might deture you from trying...My Ecal is shooting my arrows at 408-412 thru my chrono...
I have my Excal set up with the Luma Zone scope witch is a real nice scope for CB's and I also use a Mono stick for longer shots then 20yrds...Try holding a CB freehand and hit 3"-4" groups at 50yrds,good luck..Also check your city regs cause in alot of places you still can not shoot a bow in city limits without a special permit and most states are still limiting CB's to handicap people only..Also remember that a crossbow arrow slows down way faster then a arrow shot thru a reguler compound bow...
I think its great that you want to try a CB but do your homework, putting out a Grand + for a good CB might bite ya in the butt if you decide its not for you.....
Good Luck.......

The Barnett one I looked at on ebay was a new model, not sure of the name, it did have an advertised 17" throw, one ad said 16" throw, one inch longer arrow should help down range trajectory and kinetic energy.

Ranger5 do you have some sort of disability or injury? Just asking as you stated you use a mono stick over 20 yards. I could consistantly hit bullzeyes at 50 so just wondering. I wasnt shooting for groups just hitting bullzeyes consistantly. That was shooting an old exocet doing so with ease. That just my experience and mileage may vary

WOW!!!

That is impressive! I am jealous. Is there any way you can post a video of that. The best I can do offhand at over 40 yards "consistantly" is a paper plate. For you to be shooting "BULLZEYES" at 50 is amazing.
