crow flyways & roosts

How many of you hunt BIG flyways and BIG roost areas? Where I am in Arkansas, I have never seen the big flights and roosts. It's small scattered flocks. If you call over 25 birds on 1 stand, you've had a great hunt. Once in a while you see like 50 in a field, but it's rare, and usually where you can't hunt. I can't imagine some of the numbers some of you kill, but I do enjoy seeing the pics. yh57

yh57: It's very similar here in central NC and upstate SC. I've never seen one of those BIG flyways or BIG roosts.
Here, I try to find low pines. (

Hey Yote
The roost tend to be near cities here in the Baystate,I am always trying to get close to a flyway, but because of shooting laws and the close urban enviroment I can not.
Here is what I do, get on to the dairy farms and pig farms as close to your roost as possible,I know your roost may not have the amount of birds that Bob Aronsohn wants but still it will be enough for you.Anyway the crows will work through the farm all day long ones, two and small murders, that is what I want,I have had some morning shoots with 50 birds killed. Get your blind done ahead of time and have the dekes out and gun loaded in the dark, first light the shooting will start, when I first started I woould set up anywhere and kill crows, but the farms are the key!!In regard to the buster decoy, they are great,I also use the expidite wounded wood pecker painted black!!
Here is a spread of mine from Friday morning.Infact my motto is for yotes, crows, pigeons and chucks the farm is the #1 spot for all,it is the fast food resturant of the varmint world!!!

No dairy or hog farms around here. Mostly soybeans & rice, just starting to see some corn. Then small woodlots scattered around where we do most of our shooting. It doesn't take long to shoot out a 40 acre patch then it's time to move. Hopefully killing 5 or 6, maybe 8 or so if real lucky. But no matter, it's all fun.

I hunted a flyway back when I was a teen until about 10 years ago. We estimated around 50,000 birds seen each day as part of a flock that numbered about a million that roosted in Rockville, MD. It would be a steady stream of black from sunrise until midday as they headed for food sources. We did well pass shooting and with decoys/calls. Most days they would be very high and we would pick off the few that were low enough and those that would commit to a spread. The best mornings we would kill 100 birds or so. We got some great video as well. Probably the most fun I've ever had while hunting. Once the West Nile thing hit their numbers went way down. Everything is paved over there now with nowhere to hunt anyway.

Hey RedEye,are you sure them ears didnt scare em off!!

Just kiddin,I read that you got em pinned!!

But I agree with you, flyways are where its at,but it is so difficult to get on one due the crows roosting in urban ares up here. I think that crow shooting is the best way to stay sharp for predator hunting, your runnin the calls, shootin and they do not let you get away with a lot of movement!!Plus it will get you more access to farms,no farmer will turn down crows being shot!!
