16 Pied crows called in after an hours calling with hand calls, Gary's electronic and FX3 Foxpro, with help from Gary's FOAM decoy called "Mildred."

Is that one hour in the same place taking all 16? Around here after shooting just once you wouldn't see any more the rest of the day.

Does crow hunting over there have much of a following?
 
If those African pieds are anything like our American crows, they have flyways. Map the flyways and you can shoot the same flock 4 or 5 times. It's called run-n-gun.
 
All shot in same place, as far as I know I am the ony guy in SA calling crows, I call about 20-30 a morning. This hunt we used new guns, we missed 10. Good fun anyway
 
Yes borrowed some from my friend, its that bug out stuff. If you look carefully he is holding a Foxpro FX3 in his hand, he made a cover its so well camoed you can not see it. I use my homemade digital electrinic also next to Mildred. We cant buy crow decoys in SA so I carved my own one from foam, they hear sounds, then spot Mildred and hover 6-7 foot above us. Its good fun and you are doing good! Every PIED crow we kill we save about 7-10 dozen hatchlings of other birds etc. Crows kill many young of other birds, this is why we set up below trees, as they hover over looking for birds nests! Also set up with wind going the way the bird approaches, that way they have wind under the wings and it makes them more comfortable to approach old Mildred!Regards.

Yes, you are conserving your game birds. I would say you are on the leading edge of something big since you are the only one. Other's need to take up the cause!

Also, by drawing them upwind, you have a slower target on approach.

Most people are not interested here, I make calls for friends, I have never had any other people asking. So that gives you an idea as to our market, we have a members wingshooter magazine, only interested members get the magazine, I placed an ad and never got a call. South Africa is behind the times with regards to game calls, camo and also electronic calling stuff. You can walk in most shops in SA for weeks on end, you will be lucky if you find one camo cap. These items are simply not here. But other things you get and with some things we are far ahead of other countries.

I call crows whenever I get the chance, its fun and you are doing good, crows kill 8-10 dozen hatchlings etc of other birds etc.

I enjoy the hunt, calling them is fun and a guy needs patience ;-) those 16 came within an hour. I leave tomatoe sause on the ground with a few eggs, and Mildred above ;-).

The crows roll on in, if one stays out far (" educated" )I toss out a dead one into the clearing, then they often wonder whats up and come back. Crows see full colour so good camo is vital.

Glad you like my website, that 10 part calling series took about 4 months to write ;-)

I am planning another stand soon ( Feb 26th)I know another fly zone that they use, but dont go to often, dont want to educate them to much. But yes old Mildred is a killer, took me a while to carve her out, but worth it. I made her a little bigger, so she is easier to see from far. But when Mr crow is close and sees she is odd it is to late. I enjoy the crow hunt, guy does much thinking when below a tree on his own for an hour ;-) Regards.
