I have an old 93 Mauser that I think the metal is a little soft on and I rarely shoot it. I don't want to take the chances on a complete re heat treatment of the barreled action and thought about doing the cryo instead since I'm looking for very little change in the hardness factor. If we are only talking $35 I can stand to take the chance. kwg
Never read that it increased hardness but I know all the nascar teams still cryo
most of their critical parts. It does something to the structure of the steel because it makes it slicker, tougher and stronger. I had a knife made out of
timken latrobe bg42 and to gain full strength it has to be cryro'd in the heat
treating process. Twice if I remember right. You can go to their website and
read the process they recommend and what the results are with and without
the cryro process.
