Anyone know a reputable gunsmith who makes great rifles in the .17 Rem. Fireball caliber. Want a 20 barrel, threaded, etc.

Bob Green in York PA built my 17FB and 20 VT, not only is he a very reputable Smith but a true gentleman he will pick up the phone or call you right back, also has very good turn around time if he says 12 weeks you'll probably get it in 11

Adam Bentley who owns Dresden Gun Company is a member here and is very good. He's the one who built my last one. I highly recommend him.

I bought a CZ 527 American in .221 Fireball, sent it to PacNor, had them true the action and install a match grade SS barrel with a nice fast twist to shoot 30gr bullets. Shoots like a laser.

I did the same thing about ten years ago. It's my favorite rifle but I don't think I'd go that route these days. Their labor prices have more than doubled.

I sent my action to ER Shaw to have them mount one of their Number 3 Varmint barrels it. I ordered a 24" 1/14" twist 416 Stainless. Truing, fitting test firing and sending it back to me for $413. Not bad all all.

Now I just have to wait for it to get here so I can see how she shoots!

I'd still buy a PN barrel...their 17 barrels are as good as it gets...but I found a local smith that chambers and true's for a third of what they currently charge. He built my 222 and it shoots every bit as good as the guns PN did the work on.

To the OP....
I'd trust any of the smiths mentioned above....

Well I did some checking for quite a while before deciding to let Shaw put one of their barrels on it. If I did not have 4 Shaw barrels that shot lights out then I would not have gone with them. Fingers are crossed.

And trust me, if this thing dont shoot like I am hoping I will let everyone know about it. And if it does shoot good then I will likewise be letting everyone know about that too.

I don't have an opinion on Shaw barrels one way or the other;
The four barrels (3-17 & 1-22) that I've bought from PN have all been excellent as was their service so I'll stick with what I know.
I try and show some customer loyalty as long as it's within reason.

I agree. I have two NIB CZ 527 Americans. One in .221 Fireball (might have it sold) that was supposed become a .20 VarTarg and a .222 Remington, that was supposed to become a .20-.222. When I saw what it will cost now, I am selling them not to MAKE money, but to SAVE money.

Greg Tannel, Gre Tan Rifles, Rifle, CO is as good as it gets. He re barreled my .22 Hornet Browning Micro Medallion to .19 Calhoon. Extremely accurate.

Bob has built 5 or 6 rifles for me and understands small calibers. Everything Rich has said is spot on. I am sending him the parts for my next rifle Monday.
