custom barrel brand on my first build

I'm having CCA put together a custom 204 built off their action with a 24" barrel timney trigger and an hs stock. I was wondering what the differences are between the custom bbl brands, and which you would go with without having to spend a ton of money.

I hate waiting for barrels to be in stock. There are many good ones out there in today's age, but I have had some great luck with Benchmark barrels as of late. They are available and gaining in popularity. As good of a barrel as I have shot. Priced right for top shelf stuff too.

My last two were Benchmarks and had good luck with both. I've built off a Shilen, Lilja and Hart with good results too.

My take is this... Any custom barrel out there will most likely outshoot a factory pipe. So with that in mind for me at least the best barrel is the one in stock that I can order today and have next week.

Didn't even think about the wait times, great point. So from what you guys have said are there any brands to steer clear of? I see a lot of guys here use pac nor, Krieger, shilen, lilja, and hart. I've never seen anything about benchmark I'll have to look into them.

I think you'll be fine with most any of the cut rifled barrels. I have a MullerWorks and it is great. Hear great things of the other makers as well.

Pac-Nor makes a good barrel too. I forgot to add that one to my list. I used one of their barrels for a fast twist 20 Tac. I sold it to a member here who's posted some very nice groups with it.

Yep I'm the member, and the Pac-Nor shoots very well. I also have a Broughton barrel in 6.5-06 and also a real shooter. Bugholes.com is the place for some instock barrels.

Go to 3rdgss.com they have barrel blanks in stock if you have a decent smith to thread and chamber. I did my 260 in about 3 weeks from 3006 They are benchmark. Shot great

My choice is Krieger, had good luck with them so stay with them. Didn't care about the wait, I have several rifles so didn't give it a thought.

It was ready in 3 months so who cares. My next barrel will be a Krieger again.

Great folks to work with. That is where I bought my benchmark. Will do again.

Certain makers are known for "hummers" in certain calibers by those "in the know".

For a .204, Pac-Nor would be the first that comes to mind.

That doesn't mean any of the other fine barrels/makers won't work just as well. It just means that Pac-Nor sells a lot of.20s for a reason......
