I got alot of land. Lot of of game. Do alot of walking scouting thinking enjoying mother nature. I would like a versatile over under 12 gauge but i cant decide between 22 mag 22-250 or .223 rifle. I would like to varmint hunt. But also kill rabbits and squirrels if i needed. And also i know this gonna it to some ethics debate but deer to eat. Not monster buck type hunting just doe poppin. The most prolific poor backwood hillbilly poacher i know swears by the 22 mag and he's not the only one. weather or not ethics is at debate the 22 mag have taken plenty of deer and hogs. And im sorry there are no ethics in killing. Shot placement i know with the 50grain mag game shock would get the job done. And 22 mag and slug or 00 for the second shot i dont think would be a issue. 40 grain 22-250 head shots on rabbits would work but be over kill. Be.better than the 22 mag. Where i live there is a fall 22 mag turkey hunt. For a over all walking hunter/truck gun for versatility what would you go for. im becoming a minimalist tired of loading for and switching back and forth. i want a fine hunting rifle im sick all these heavy varmint/sniper rifles I have. gonna keep my 7mm mag for trophy hunting and 10/22 but move alot of my other stuff for high end over under well handling rifle. Any Scope suggestions thanks to all

What if ( I don't know if it would or would not work depending on model) you bought a 22-250& 12 gauge BUT bought 223 and 22 magnum inserts for the rifle barrel and ( if you wanted more versatility) 20 gauge and 410 gauge inserts for the 12 gauge barrel, so you could shoot just about anything you came across?

223 over 12 would be my vote. Only issue is most combo guns have the wrong twist rate. A 1:9 or 8 or something allowing heavier bullets is best. I know most were making 1:12 or 1:14 for 50 and maybe 55 grain pills. Head shots would do fine though. 223 also doesn’t do too bad for small game. Bring some FMJs and go for head shots too.

after further thought I think I’ll be going with possibly a .243/12 or .223/12 if I can find a used one good. If I bite the bullet and do a $5k new blaser build its gonna be a .243/12 or a 257wby/12 (how awesome would that be) i got to thinking I always have a good accurate 22 pistols/revolvers on hand. For popping small stuff on my walk abouts any way. I think a good flat mid size cartridge may be the common ground.

I’ve wanted a combo for years. I know I mentioned blaser but I also see the tika/valmet rifles. And cz made one called the Bruno some years back. Although i have no issues with savage stuff especially newer one I’m no snob. But my research on the 24 is they can be hit or miss accuracy wise. I would like a 1 moa or less capable rifle. Any info on any brands would be appreciated. I own a couple of nice large cal sakos and tikkas and love most Finnish rifles. I foolishly sold a Simo Haya style sako Mosin it was a work of art. Thanks to all

I must not be in the norm here. I've killed too many coyotes to count with a .223 pushing a 50gr Nosler BT. 99% of them were body shots. Can't recall very many runners. Guess these small eastern yotes must just give up too easily.....

He said deer. Coyotes with a 40 grain are DRT most the time. Deer though I stand by the need of a bigger bullet and if you’re gun is stabilizing a 70 grain Speer with a 1:12 that’s impressive and defies some ballistics but it’s not unheard of. Which Speer round is it?
