CZ 527 Carbine .223 for calling Coyote/Fox

I suddenly have an urge to get one of the CZ 527 Carbines in 223 for a calling rifle. The little Mauser actions are way cool looking and I'd think it would be a handy little rifle. I've still got my old dies and brass from another ,223 I used to own.

Anyone using one of these lately?

What scope would you put on it? I'm in rural Wisconsin. Shots are well under 200 yards.

Yes there are folks doin' it! It is my favorite, I just sold my stinkin' 204 that blew everything to bits and went back to a 223 and am using my CZ 527 Carbine. Light, easy to point, easy to get in and out of truck with and VERY accurate w/ lots 'o ammo. Now loading and testing 40 gr Barnes Varmintors and testing Varget, H322 and Benchmark. Got a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9X40 but may go up.

The Carbine is like all my CZ's, HARD TO BEAT!

I also have a carbine in 223, to me its an awesome calling rifle especially if you plan to do much hiking. I think mine needs some glass bedding to reach its potential, but its still one of my favorites, the stock has a little drop to it, makes off hand shooting to me feel awesome, not quite as nice to shoot from the bench however. its so light and handy, easy to get out of the truck, it also only clocks about 75FPS less than my 24" varmint CZ

What are you guys paying for the CZ's anyway...?

Maybe when I get a few bucks together...who knows.
I just don't care for that hanging magazine thing....I like the rotary's like Ruger uses, or enclosed floorplates, but I've read great things about the CZ 527's lately. I've also been sniffin' around for a Rem. Mod 7, and seriously thought about rebarrelling the action with a short fluted heavy taper. I built one back in 97-98' with a 20" barrel, and it shot beautifully. Never should have sold it, but you can't keep them all.

Very curious,
Bob

Mark, what do you mean blew everything to bits? I love my CZ 527 in 223 but am looking for a 204 for ground squirrels as a second rifle. I have been hearing good things about the 204 on yotes and thought that I could see the hit better on the 204.

I don't have a CZ carbine/rifle but I do shoot a .223 NEF. I love the caliber. Also, I just bought a CZ 75B in a .40 S&W. A real sweet handgun that is quality made. I love it...

I prefer the Tikka. I think the CZ has equally good and bad points. It has a good trigger, handles well, great accuracy. It also has an odd bolt angle-tight to the scope, backwards safety that was designed for safety training, a clip that sticks out, can have feeding problems.

Thanks for the replies!

I have a CZ452 Classic .22 rimfire and I am used to the odd safety. It's not really a problem on a predator rifle where you generally have plenty of time to get ready. I wouldn't want it on my upland bird gun though!

I love the idea of a detachable magazine. In and out of the truck. Makes things easier. I've read where the feeding can be slicked up with some tinkering.

I'm just so imprssed with the quaity and accuracy of my CZ rimfire. I think these "mini-mauser" CZ 527s are just really neat guns. That's a lot of what's driving my interest. I imagine a Tikka, Remington 7, Winchester 70 compact would all be great choices, too.

Sidewinder: The 204 was kinda cool for me being a new round and all. But for me the darn thing just 'blows everything to bits, truly!'. It is neat to see a jack rabbit skinned at first, but it blew my last two foxes to bits also. Truth, I did not try the 35 gr Berger bullets that are supposed to be good on coyotes, I just wore out tryin' to make the thing shoot, no flame wars wanted or intended, it just don't work for me!

Handgunr you owe it to yourself to try a CZ. They can really be special and are not at all expensive.

The bad thing about buying a CZ is that it forms an addiction. One leads to another. I have a 452 in .22, a 527 American in .223, and a 550 Varmint in .308. It is a pleasure to shoot all of them.

I've got a 527 Carbine in 223 . It's the most accurate out of the box gun I have ever had .I have only had mine about 9 months and have not shot any yotes with it yet .Mine wears a Simmons 2.8-10X Aetec .I don't like the safety but that said everything else is good.I haven't had any problems with ammo feeding from the clip.I was impressed enough to buy a 452 in 22mag as well .

I am such a 'Homer' for CZ I did not want to say it until Ramjet did. But my Carbine is Super Accurate, thought it would be good, but I was totally superized, it is OUTSTANDINGLY accurate!

my carbine used to feed a little rough, I left the mag full for several months, I also used a little jb bore paste on the feed lips, checked it for giggles again last night, haven't played with the gun for a while, gun now feeds great!! That little CZ action is wonderful, I can imagine exactly how it feels to cycle the action.

I am reading that this carbine is accuerate and so I have to ask, at what range would you say this was very accurate out to? This would be in a .223 cal..
