For those who have expressed an interest in the past Whittaker Guns show they have the CZ527 varmint in 17 Remington. $608.99. They also offer a layaway program. Now spend that money!!!

If I was currently without a .17 Remington (God forbid!) I would get me another of those neato 527's in a heartbeat. What a good looking, accurate and fun rifle! Mine was pretty much my favorite for our local ground squirrel but it all laid to rest many a Wyoming prairie dog. Quite a few with truly devastating deaths. One in the wrong place at the wrong time badger met his end with it too. One shot and he was through.

If I had not just spent a good deal of money on a new .17 Rem Lilja barrel for my Remington 700 I do believe I one have one of those CZ's on order right now. Great guns. Ask anyone who owns one.

17's can be real picky on seating depth, jump yhe bullet too far and accuracy is gone. Look before you leap because SAAMI SPEC IS LONG, CIP
(european specs is even longer)

17's love to be seated up against the lands-just off the lands, barely.

ever shoot 1/4" groups with a 17? most bugs can not get through the hole

Yep. I did once. The rifle and load is capable of it but I'm not always. Still, it shoots really good.

Get the CZ. You will love it.

I placed a picatinny base on mine so that I can switch scopes back and forth, from a daytime scope to a home-made night vision outfit.
I use Warne quick detach rings and have a good return to zero, only with minor tweeking sometimes.

Are you still hitting the bulls after swapping scopes back-and-forth?

Yes, but sometimes the POI might be slightly off, maybe a click or two but not enough to matter on a hunt. Punching paper and desiring a center-placed shot may require a tweek or two.

The CZ 527 in 17 is one of my grail guns. I have a TC Contender carbine with a original 21" barrel that I really love but dang I sure do want a CZ 527. I currently have two CZ 527's one in .22 Hornet and one in .223 Rem.

I saw your post and looked them up. They're only 3 hrs from me so I made a run. Super great folks there. Let me pick through and get the one I thought looked the best!

After a little loading... 3 shots @ 10 yards
(Edited to correct supposed to have said 100 yards! Thank you Rustydust!)

Curious as to why you did a whiteout of the grains, velocity and COAL?

My favorite load so far for my 17 Remington is:
IMR 4320 - 23.7 gr
Remington 7 1/2 primer
2.150" COAL
Hornady 25 gr HP

Rifle - Remington 700 BDL

Set up that I measure my COAL is actually for my own information, it's actually to the ogive with an insert that I turned myself. I don't even "0" it out, so it would be inaccurate information to post. As far as the velocity it's just a calculation that I've found to be fairly close when checking against my crony. Present load X Max velocity divided by max load... a proportional equation that isn't exact, I didn't shoot it across my crony so didn't think it'd be good idea to post. Then the powder grains I'm loading pretty hot, some folks land the bullet right on the lands, I back off a touch to keep from dumping powder in my action (hunting loads) when I take the shell out. I just think it's better for folks to work up their own amount of powder while they watch for psi signs. No harm or insult intended.

For what it's worth the estimated velocity was 3951fps.

TNYotehntr,
That thing is looking and shooting great. Mine has nice wood too. Although not as nice as yours and 6mm06's. Looks like the local game population is in grave danger. Brad, love your calls, gorgeous. Have a great summer everyone.

I can agree with you on all your points. I was just curious. Sometimes I will list my load information and certainly like to see what others are doing in the same calibers. I may use their information as a head check but I always work up my own loads because each rifle shoots differently.
Case in point. A buddy of mine and I have the exact same 17 Remingtion in the 700 BDL. I worked up a load in his using the Berger 25 gr varmint HP bullet. It shoots incredibly accurate in his rifle. I put the same load in my rifle and the best it would shoot is about 2 inches at 100 yards. Then, the load I worked up in my rifle using the Hornady 25 gr HP that shoots lights out will now group worth a darn in his rifle. Go figure?!?!?

Ah, just one of the maladies that has had ballisticians pulling their hair out for many decades. Two identical rifles can come out the the factory with consecutive serial numbers. One will shoot groups twice as tight as the other and/or shoot 100 FPS (or more!) faster than the other. I had thee .223 rifles (two bolt, one AR-15) that all loved the very same load but two shooting partners could not get it to shoot as well as some of their other handloads.

I dont try to figure it out. I'm not smart enough to do that. If I find a load that shoots really really good nowadays I pretty much stick with it. "Pretty much" being the variable here. I still like to experiment every now and then but usually end up going back to my old tried and true. Part of being a handloader I suppose.

That's where that group is seated (and the 50 rounds I loaded up yesterday) are.
