CZ 527 Magazine problem?

I went to the range the other day to work on some load development. When I loaded 5 rounds into my mag, my cartridges didn't want to feed into the chamber. Not with out me applying a bit of pressure to the back of the brass while feeding. With only 3 rounds in the mag I don't have any feeding problems.

This occurred with both Full length resized brass and Neck-sized brass. So I don't think it has anything to do with the brass itself. I'm thinking magazine problem.
Follower not straight when fully loaded or spring tension not strong enough. I don't know.

Can anyone help?
Adam

PS. Its a CZ 527 American in 223Rem.

some times the lips on the cz mags need a little work. my cz 527 fireball mags that I got as extras all need a little work before they would feed smooth. I found that they where to wide almost bowed in the midle and when you put them in the gun they would pinch the round making it really hard to feed. I just worked the mag lips in a little at at time till the problem was gone. I also took some very fine sand paper and smoothed the lips up. My action also was a little stiff and I think that adds to the problem but after 100-150 rounds it nice and.

What sac4 said, he's right on. I'd start with the fine sandpaper/emery cloth. A couple of mine have had some rough edges on the feed rails, the more rounds you put in, the more spring tension you create, the more spring tension, the harder it is to slide the round past those rough edges.

Are you sure that your COL isnt a little too long for the Mag? I know when I push the envelope, the first 2 shells will go into the Mag easy, but then they tighten up as I add more. Good luck.

If it's a new mag you could always load it up and let it sit a few days/weeks to loosen the spring tension.
Along with a bit of file/sandpaper along the front edges has worked for me to allow the bullets to slide out easier. Those front edges are sharp when new and with a fully loaded mag the tension actually had them digging into the brass enough to stick.
I also found that sometimes the cartridge would load quite easily from a stuck position if I pushed directly on the back of the bolt with my thumb rather than used the bolt handle. It seemed to give a more direct inline push.

I have two CZ 527's, one in 7.62X39 and the other in .221 Fireball. Also have a CZ 453 in .17 HMR and of the three rifles I have fortunately not had any real magazine issues to speak of, but I did have to tweak one of the .221 magazines to make it feed better. If your cartridge OAL is correct and nothing else appears to be out of line, I would consider returning the magazine to CZ for replacement. I know it sounds like a hassle to have to do so, but my experience with CZ's customer service has been positive thus far.

Good luck to ya'

I talked to my gunsmith today and he said pretty much what all of you have written. Just tweak the lips of the mag and problems should go away.

COL is fine. Actually fairly short. My rifle has a short throat on it. If I loaded a round as long as I could to juust fit in the magazine, I'd be shoving the bullets back into the case. Or WAY into the lands.

I'll try a bit of sandpaper tonight. If that doesn't work I'll have the smith check it out Tuesday. Its nice working 15 feet away from him!

Thanks for the input guys. Confirmed what I had expected. CZs are awesome rifles. You guys and other regulars on different forums helped me spend my money on the best rifle possible.

Feeding problem is now fixed. When the smith took the stock off, he noticed it was cracked on the forearm. So thats being fixed tomorrow morning.
