Cz 527 Varmint .17 Hornet Minor Issue

Hi Guys. I'm having a minor issue with my Cz 527 Varmint .17 Hornet. The issue has been ongoing since purchasing this rifle new over a month ago. When I feed a round in the chamber the bolt seems to be slightly rubbing the clip. When the clip is not in the rifle the bolt moves freely. When the clip is in it is a little tougher to close the bolt. The odd thing is, if you take your finger and put it directly center behind the bolt, without actually touching the bolt handle and push the bolt closed, it closes smoothly.

Anyone else having or had this issue? What have you done to resolve it?

If your CZ 527 has a "clip," it is most likely a fake. True CZs come with "magazines."

Is all seriousness, it could be several things. Is there a burr on one of the feed lips, or on the slot where the magazine catch enters the side of the mag? Does the magazine have any wiggle to it?

Let's start there.

Lol. Sorry, I meant magazine.

No. I took a file and gently went over it. It's pretty smooth. The magazine fits snug and has no play.

That's good. I don't know how much you've used it but the problem should iron itself out. It's hard to diagnose without seeing it, but I bet it's just not broken in yet. You can wait it out or very slightly relieve the back of the feed lips.

I'll add that I'm not a professional or affiliated with CZ. I'm just telling you what I would do if it were mine.

Those CZ 527's are a sweet little rifle but they could certainly benefit from a better magazine setup because they aren't particularly silky smooth in the feeding department.

When my 527 17 hornet was brand new, it felt like I was trying to chamber gravel. I took the magazine apart and smoothed off all the sharp edges to the follower and feed lips then Dremeled the bejesus out of everything with a felt pad and Flitz. It's still far from silky smooth but it made a significant difference and is at least livable now.

I can see why so many 527 owners go with the single shot follower kits from James Calhoon.
 
You know I had the same issue with my .17 rem. 527 varmint and a couple people on here argued up and down that cz's were very smooth and that it was just me. funny

I'd say most or next to all of them are very smooth, but I've seen some that weren't. The 223 I converted to 6 WOA was rough as a cob before Kevin Weaver trued it up.
 
Order up some Microlon oil, it smooths out any metal on metal in a way that's hard to believe. The first thing I do with a new gun is work the action, then use microlon and work it some more. It makes semi autos and bolts so much smoother that they don't seem like the same gun. Once the action has been worked a bit it's easy to see where metal is rubbing and where the oil needs to be. They also make a gun grease that has the microlon in it to treat the metal.

Good stuff and not expensive, the gun kit has oil, grease, and the bore treatment, well worth using.
 
Thanks for all the replies. I'll probably go with the single shot follow up mag by James Calhoon. Went to his site and didn't see one in .17 Hornet though. Just need to get some time to call him. I did try taking a file to the mag with no success. It is in the mag though. The bolt moves freely when the mag is not in.
