Has anyone seen these yet? They look awesome. Should be a good deal too, considering the quality of the action and the excellent stocks. I heard $1500-$2000. 223, 20cal, 17cal. 1/2moa with most loads on the report I read--2MG

2MG:

Not sure what article you read, but Volume 7 (2004) Numbers 2,3 and 4 issues of Small Caliber News has some pretty extensive write ups on the new Dakota Predator rifles. They are indeed nice looking rifles.

Todd Kindler gave quite a bit of space in those three issues of his magazine to the new rifles since he has a working relationship of sorts with Dakota Arms having sold licensing rights to the 20 Tactical, 17 Tactical, 17 VarTarg, 20 VarTarg, 22 VarTarg, and the 17 and 20 caliber Classics to Dakota Arms. Dakota Arms has renamed the 17 and 20 Classics the 17 Dakota and the 20 Dakota.

I believe the rifles are going to be a little more pricey than originally announced as the composite stock version is listed at $1995 and the two wood stock versions are $2495 and $2695. If they are like previous Dakota Arms listed prices, you probably won't see a lot of discount on the dealer shelves. Still a pretty outstanding rifle when you consider it's pedigree.

On the other hand, it makes the Cooper Arms rifles look like a real bargain for what you get in the $1000+ range. I imagine there still will be a good market for the new Dakota rifles in spite of the price differences. - BCB

BCB--have not seen the Kindler articles. Will have to check them out. You are right, the Cooper's still look like a great deal. Thanks. Take it easy my friend--2MG

Dakota has a lot of fancy stuff. I have no experience with them, but it all looks good.
I do think Nesika is probably the finest action there is today for most shooting. The next rifle I build will be with a Nesika action.

Probably start with Dakota Arms since they're all one happy family now. Most folks who have the actions don't sell them, and if they do, they know they can pretty well name their price.

We can always dream of a deal though. I keep thinking some day I will walk into "Slick Willys Pawn Shop" and see a Shilen DGA on the shelf for $150 just because the stock has a few dings on it and Willy has no idea what it. Probably won't happen, however.

Good luck. - BCB
