Danger to dogs question

Because I am from Tennessee I have never been around any Mt. Lions, but besides them I do have experience with about all types of hound hunting. In this area the only 2 animals that ever hurt many dogs are hogs and bears. Although a single bobcat could kill a hound 1 on 1, that situation is very rare. Also, most hounds that I have been in the woods with dispatch a coon pretty quickly without anything more than some scratchs to show for it. The thing that kills dogs in this area is hogs and mean bears. A hog can cut a dog from one end to the other and have its guts laying on the ground with one quick swing of its head, and they can't climb or get away so there will be a fight when the dogs catch it. Also a bear can bite, slap, and pick up and crush a dog. Good big game dogs with grit in this area either get real smart or real dead if they are hunted much. They either learn to avoid being hit or they get killed. I am not saying that hogs can't be caught I am just saying they can really work on a dog if it messes up, and the same with a bear. I personally believe that a mean, smart bear will kill more dogs than anything because of the size, power, and agility. But as I said I am not an expert and this is just my experience and the experience of my friends.
 
Hey Weasle, where is that guy that had his calf separtated from his leg form? There is a gy up here in springville that runs a shooting range (or used too) that had the same thing happen, just wondering if it is the same guy?

Yeah man...Those hog's are no joke! Even farm stock hog's can get nasty and grow some decent tusks. I know a farmer who got gashed real good below the knee, while loading some stock to take to the auction. Big ole boar took a nice chunk out of him. Lesson learned: He know takes a crowbar to em, so they are toothless before he loads them up.

I'm telling you guys...watch that video of Jay Dorsey's. He has some excellent catch dogs, and the video is quite entertaining in a comical way. It also shows some of his hounds getting ripped open by some mean ole razorbacks.
 
After someone here contacted me about where to obtain the video, I realized it's almost impossible to find. I'm assuming that due to it's graphic nature, the Anti's have something to do with this. You can google Jay Dorsey's main catch dog at the time, the legendary "Hog Hammer." He shows up as a foundation sire in many, many Old southern white/ American bulldog pedigrees...at least ones decended from hog catching lines.

I even ran across links online of Hog Hammer video clips, but it seems ALL the links were dead. I guess there was too much pressure from the non understanding. You can always try e-mailing Jay and requesting to buy the video. http://www.dorseyslodge.com/
 
BTW...I did find the VHS tape I had. I watched some of the tape again, and realized it's from 1994. Doesn't seem that long ago, geez. Anyways, I contacted a place about getting it burned to a DVD for like $20.00, which I'll do when it becomes high on my current list of priorities. (not for a while)
 
I had a beagle that killed a badger one day and drug it around until it could hardly walk. i thought that was tough. maybe just lucky.
My cousin runs hounds for cats and bears in ID and had 2 hounds catch a bear in a culvert - they came out on the short end of the deal. Lots of vet bills after that one.
