Danner or Rocky ???

rocky's factory used to be in nelsonville, ohio(close to where we have the ohio get together every year). they boxed up the factory and sent it to mexico or somewhere for cheaper manufacturing.... there quality has suffered ever since. in my opinion rocky's have went to crap. i wouldnt recomend them to anyone ever.... the last pair i bought lasted about 4 months and started leaking. id go with the danner boots hands down.

Well, Danner moved (most of) their manufacturing from Portland to China a few years back.
I've owned at least 5 pairs of their boots over many years, and loved them all.
But I'm not wearing ChiCom boots, so they lost me as a customer.

+1

When Rocky left Nelsonville, the quality left too!

i have worn both for my job i have had very good luck out of both as far as wear. the rocky is a lot more comfortable. the biggest prob i have had with the danners is the color cant keep them black afteer a month or two the want to turn to this milky gray color. i cant [beeep] at my guys about keeping their boots polished if i cant keep mine.

My first pair of danner pronghorns didn't last a year. They were as comfortable as can be, but after a while if I stepped near a water hole, they'd attract water and leak. Danner replaced them free of charge and the second pair has held up so far. I've owned one pair of Rocky's. They leaked from day one.

plus rocky's customer service sucks! i had a pr of their boots that the soles started coming off after about month + sent them back + they told me they did'nt make that sole anymore + never tried to make it right. so do you know what my opinon of rocky's is? ---- ROCKY

i'm suprised to hear all the negative feedback on the Rocky boots. not to say i don't believe it. if they shipped their mfg to Mexico, i guess it makes sense. never had to use their customer service. never needed it for anything. i've still got the first pair of Rockys i bought 20 yrs ago. still wear em occassionaly. i've got two more pair and never had any problem at all. held together well and i'm rough on boots. but i haven't purchased a pair in 5 or six yrs.

my daughter got me a pair of Muck boots last Christmas. got nothing but great things to say about those boots. i always heard good things about em, but the proof is in the pudding. i'd recommend Mucks to anyone that wanted a rubber boot with neoprene uppers. i'm very impressed with em.

I went to Gander mountain to try them on. They didn't have my exact size, but trying on a couple different sizes/widths, I decided to go with a 11 EE. The D were tight, but not bad until I put a heavy wool sock on. The EE felt a lot better.

I ordered the Danner Pronghorns today. They are estimated to be here Monday. I hope I like them.

My boots were older than that. But I got similar treatment. I will NEVER buy another another Rocky product.

&*%$#*&%$#@#$@^ ROCKY

That was my LAST pair of Rocky's.
Hey Houser in NC,
Guess what - I had a brand new pair of their Goretex also, the same thing happened to mine. Just two hrs of walking in mostly grass and dirt, the sole's were just "disappearing" - yap, chucks of rubber falling off........
Never buy them Chinese boots again!!!!!

I'm really sorry to hear so many negatives about the Rocky boots....

When they first came on the market, there was a big promotional sale to Emergency Personnel and most of us bought some at a very good price.... These were worn every day in all kinds of weather and surface conditions...

I had one sole start to come loose and called the company for a return authorization and received a new pair on Overnight shipping, without sending mine in for repair...

Other officers were getting excellent wear and service as well..When I retired, I bought another pair at the regular price

It's too bad they have apparently lowered their standards in pursuit of the buck...

Irish setter are good boots I wear them everyday and get more mileage out of them over rocky or danners. Rocky has went down hill fast!!! Wouldn't buy another pair again.

I'm not a danner fan.

I had a neighbor go through the exact same thing with danner, good boots
but they leaked. I've had redwings for 9 years and treat them like a rubber
boot, no problems.

I dont know about the Danner Pronghorns but I have bought a couple pair of their Grouse Boots over the years and they have been excellent....

ive never owned either of those brands but ive had great luck with georgia boots for both work and hunting. i guess what im trying to get at is just try whats most comfortable and suiting for your application and see how it works out.

Have you considered the zip up Irish Setter snake boots tried them and the rockys on the other day and the Irish Setters were so much more comfortable to me. I am planning on getting a pair of the Irish Setters.

One thing I'll say about the Danners I've owned:

None of them leaked until they were worn out, and the longer I wore them, the more comfortable they were.
I've owned Brownings, Hermann Survivors, a couple of off-brands, and none of them stood up to abuse like the Danners.
But that may well have changed since they moved to China.

Ok - take a look, here is what I got for $140. 2 hrs or less of walk time on these boots.

I can literally pull the rubber from the sole with my fingers. No More Rocky's For Me!!!

Pretty much the same for me. Bought a pair of Rocky rubber boots, real comfortable and were light weight compared to the others i tried. First time I stepped in water they filled up with it. Traded for lacrosse alpha burly sport, bout 7 years ago and there still good to go. Bought a pair of Danner Pronghorn snake boots and they have been great. Third year on them.
