Day vs night hunting

Good discussion thanks for all your replies.

From what I understand from all with experience with both , there could be stands in the day or night that seem easy or hard. I know from my experience in the daylight, sometimes you hunt all day and may call in one. Another day you may have sucess on many stands. Probably the same at night but maybe abit more successful? It sounds like maybe they're not quiet as wary in the dark (as a general rule) I've had very limited experience after dark.
Good hunting

Night is easier for me and that is with using a thermal. Harder at night for me with a light. If I have to depend on a light, then I choose the day, but I also use a decoy dog and that is a lot of fun during the day

Not far from you and agree on all counts. Almost all of my cam pics/vids plus a buddy's have been triggered at night in our area so that's when I go out.

I prefer days myself. Start swinging a spotlight around here at night and expect an encounter with the game warden regardless of its legality.

no wardens for me either but did have the cops called on me once. Went over fine they knew what I was doing and I had permission to hunt there...

One of the easiest things to do before going out at night is to make a simple phone call to the local dispatch and game warden. 99.9% of any problems will be headed off. Let them know where you will be and what time frame you plan on hunting.

I hunt in Ohio and have had more luck in the night time. They are definitely more vocal at night and I have never heard them during the daylight Unless it's dusk. I like night hunting for the fact I have better luck and I don't run into deer or turkey hunters. I don't miss out on family time or time I could be getting things done around the farm.

Daytime for the best overall experience when you bag one. Nightime for numbers productivity. One thing that will seldom be admitted is that many are uncomfortable being out in the fields and woods at night. Not necessarily scared, but uncomfortable with the darkness.

I think I can sum this up with two little sentences.

Coyotes are easier to shoot during the day.

Coyotes are easier to call at night.

A 250 yard coyote is a gimme during the day. And a 300 yarder is a 90% proposition, with the wind winning 10% of the time.
However, it really doesn't matter because mine just about always come in the 50-60 yards or closer, because I am extremely. Well hidden.

At night shots at 250-300 are very challenging and require very good equipment. Range estimations are also tougher, at least for me. Coyotes will usually charge the call like normal, but often catch a glimpse of the vehicle and try to circle. Under a dark moon, it's not really an issue as they usually circle close and lights work very well without competition from moonlight.
Under a big moon, like last weekend, they tend to circle a little farther out.

Calling cats and fox seems to me a game of setting up in close proximity to your quarry, although fox are infinitely easier to call at night.

Yeah red fox here at night are super eastly to call and kill. During the day it just does not happen much. Last hour and first hour of daylight are usually good for one or two

.
This right there ...
90% of all coyotes taken come-in with a predictable arch of 100 yard and most inside that because you are hidden well . I like to set-up in the darker night shade if there is any moon ambient at all out . But Coyotes might be more relaxed on coming-in on a call at night but they get educated with the same speed as Daytime

Night also has a crapload of more equipment responsibilities when going NV . plus throw on more difficulties in foot travel & navigation .
Night hunting is an acquired taste . It a total different energy with your hunting, between hunting in Daylight & a non-solar Night . It's DARK but it's a quiet energy your participating in . For me I find it relaxing but I know others who don't care for the feeling at All .

I've had my best Luck Hunting Coyotes in the early mornings and late evenings....We can Hunt at night in Missouri only with the aid of Moonlight and if its Winter time with a good cover of snow on the ground it helps much more.

It would be Awesome if We could use Thermal Night Vision Equipment....We need to change the Laws in Missouri,[beeep] You Texas Hunters! LMAO

Id def prefer to call at night for many reasons. To start with, I personally have way more fun at night; most people are at home in bed and its very quiet out and about. The suspense when walking in the dark to the stand and not knowing what is out there is awesome. The continual suspense of scanning that light looking for those lil eyes is great.

Predators seem to be more active at night, therefore, I seem to be more productive night calling.
Its easier to make a blooper on the set up and still be productive at night for me. Case in point, If i dont have good cover and Im sitting on a wide open hill side, in daytime it would prob mean no yotie, at night he cant really seem me as well so cover is not as important; least in my experience. My movement is concealed much better at night, I feel, giving me the advantage.

Predators seem to come stronger to the call, and hang up less at night, least in my experience.
Does it present challenges? O YES! Plenty of them, but thats what makes it so great.

Somebody said 40 dogs in 24 hours? Well, youve done something Ive never seen nor heard of. Just my .02

I enjoy calling them in during the day seeing the coyote come into the call its a rush. The same if you are using a decoy dog you can see it work the coyotes.
Now if you have a ranch that needs the coyotes managed that's different anytime works or drive around in the early morning and spot and shoot or camp next to a dead cow or calf.
