Is it just me or are the deburring tools that come with the RCBS case-prep center junk? They just don't seem to cut well at all and they havn't been used much.Anybody switching them out with another type?

Yes, they are absolute junk, although I have found that the inside chamfer tool is pretty good for removing primer crimps.

RCBS makes a VLD deburring tool that is a much better inside chamfer tool, but I have yet to find an outside tool replacement that is decent.

Ive replaced the chamfer and deburr components by unscrewing the lyman hand tool cutters and screwing them onto the prep center. The threads are the same and they cut much easier and smoother. The rcbs outside deburrer left alot to be desired I thought.Actually, both of them did.The lyman vld chamfer is sharp and smooth, only takes a second.

The Lyman tools come with a hex drive that screws in the end of the tools. Stick it in a rechargable drill and you got everything the RCBS deal does and more and faster.

I swithched out my inside cutter for the RCBS VLD deburing tool 5 years ago and it still is sharp and works great. I just finished preping 1000 rounds of 223 yesterday and I would guess I have prepped over 5-7,000 rounds with the same cutters and have not had any issues with deburring. Maybe I got lucky and got a good set.

The case prep center is a little weak. Do yourself a favor and get the RCBS three way trimmer head for the case trimmer. Hook the shaft up to your 1/2 inch cordless and you will start cranking out fully prepped brass in no time. the 3 way will set you back $55.00 or so buy it is well worth it.

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys!Already have my daughter bringing the lyman multi-tool home from the big city for me.I rarely load more than 50 or so cases at a time,so for now cranking them out fast isn't a big concern.I will see how this goes and its only $21 so if it still sucks I won't be out much!
Thanks,Mike

I have never had an issue with them. The only thing that I have noticed is it takes more time for the outside tool than the inside. I can only assume that it is because when trimming more of the brass flares outward than inward because of the trimming pilot.

That's why you spend $50.00 and get the 3-way cutter head for your RCBS trimmer....Best $50 buck i've ever spent, Chamfers, deburrss, and trims all in one motion..

I just use hand tools and saved my money. I buy Lapua brass, it save prep time. I use a bushing die, reload and go shooting.

The 1st 100 rounds of win brass I prepped were by hand.I'll never do that again!Bought the prep center the next day.In hindsight, the cordless is the cheaper and probably better way to go but I dont regret the prep center one bit,its made the most tedious steps for me easy and quick.
Yep.Lapua is where its at.Still havent fired that win brass after using the''good stuff''.
