Decided to clean

Since I can’t get a pic of a pig or heard a coyote in 5 months or so I decided to clean the suppressors.
First one turned out pretty good.

Decided to do a before and after on what I’m guessing is my first one I bought seeing how I had to use the baffle removal tool and three of them are seriously stuck together…

I’ll post up pics tomorrow of how they turn out after soaking all night.

This is pretty much soak and rinse. I had the brush there thinking I needed to scrub them and I did, but just running under warm water took all the carbon off.

End result…

To say I’m impressed is an understatement. Minimal effort on my part and 2 clean suppressors!! I’d tried cleaning them before with just some Dawn and warm water. It did get a lot of carbon off, but I never thought I’d see shiny baffles again, lol.

On my Banish 30, I use CLR mixed half and half with water in a zip lock bag with the baffles. I place those in a sonic cleaner with heated water. Probably takes about 30 minutes after the water is hot. On the tube, I plug the threaded end with a rubber stopper and set it upright so that I can fill it with CLR and water (half and half) and screw the end cap back in and plug that with a small rubber stopper. Let it sit for the duration of the baffle cleaning. Only takes a little wiping with a cloth to clean all residue off and have like new baffles. They do not recommend putting the tube in the sonic cleaner.

I don’t have a sonic cleaner and put just enough cleaner in a Tupperware bowl to cover the baffles. Even though the solution was dirty after the first suppressor I put the second set of baffles in and it still cleaned them as the pics show.
The main tube just soaked in some dawn dish soap in the sink for a couple hours, then cleaned with the brush and a washcloth.
This solution is odorless and safe enough to go down the drain. What’s even better is I still have 3/4 of the bottle left and I’m saving the used to use again.
These are the Banish 30’s. I’m looking at a DD suppressor…those are solid units I believe, so to clean those do just soak the entire unit?

My banish 30 is carbon welded shut where it’s supposed to unscrew. I gave up cleaning a long time ago.
I bet if you soaked it in CLR, it would come loose. Years from now when it's gained a pound and doesn't suppress well anymore, you may regret not cleaning it.

I tried that too. It cleaned a decent amount of carbon out but it’s still seized up. I’ll keep soaking it in CLR if it gets loud. I prefer to shoot my Thunderbeast over the banish lately.

For penetrating oil duties lately I have been using a 40/60 mix of Acetone/ATF. Next batch will have some Kroil as well. Would be worth a try for you.

Call me anal, but I periodically check all connection points, even loosening and retightening on the barrel. Had a choke tube seize up umpteen years ago and decided that will never happen again!

I bought a Rem 870, 2 barrels, one is smooth rifle sight barrel. Threaded for choke tubes, has a rifled tube that I haven't been able to remove. My gunsmith created a tool for removing stuck choke tubes, I told him he can test it on my barrel. I have tried heat(barrel) and penetrating oil.

I also had my Banish 30 stuck so tight that I could not get the 2" end piece separated from the main body. I put a wrap of duct tape on the end of the main body (threaded end) and also a wrap of duct tape on the 2" piece. Then I placed a stainless steel hose clamp over each piece of duct tape and tightened them down securely. I put the main end in a vise with the screw on the clamp so that it would come up against the vice. I put a strap wrench over the other hose clamp on the 2" piece and that allowed me to break them loose. I turned it to tighten first (couldn't really tell that it moved) and then reversed that and it broke loose.

I do a lot of target shooting so clean my Banish 30 after a day of shooting. I use Zep 505. It's only 13.99 a gallon and doesn't hurt the finish. Soak it for 10 minutes and the carbon wipes off easy.
