Decisions, decisions! Tikka T3 or Remington VTR in .223

Ok, here is the deal. My girlfriend got me a gift certificate from the LGS, gotta love a woman who does that, now the decision making. I am wanting a .223 with a 1 in 9 twist barrel too lob a little heavier bullet out there for our local call shy dogs.I am looking at the Tikka T3 and the Remington VTR and have come to a crossroads of sorts. Looking for some advice from the predator hunting community to sway me one way or the other

Never owned a Tikka, but i have a VTR in 223 with the triangular barrel and built in brake. It is a joy to shoot.

I couldn't get my X-Mark Pro trigger to adjust lower than 4 lbs, so I put in a Timney. Love it.

I can't produce consistent .5 groups yet even with reloads, but it is accurate enough for what i do. I am shooting 60gr Vmax. It also likes 62gr hollow points.

I haven't tried anything heavier.

I would like to replace the stock with the Magpul Hunter. My length of pull is shorter than most aftermarket stocks and my other hunting rifle, and I think that is partly why I like this rifle more than my others. I can't remember what it is exactly, but think its either 14 1/4", or less than 14".

Anyway, I like it, however the brake makes it every bit as loud as my 30-06. Don't even hunt without at least one earplug.

the Remington VTR looks cool. but looks don't kill....

on my 308 VTR it requires both hands with a firm grip to operate the bolt.

the accuracy is nothing to brag about.

PITA to load and unload.

but it looked cool when I bought it lol.

from what research i have done for $400-600 in upgrades it can be as good guns for a fraction of the price.

every time I shoot it. my ruger looks better.

If your dogs are call shy and hanging up at distance....my choice would be to jump up to a 22-250 rather than buy a new 223 that will shoot heavier bullets (if you are already buying a new rifle). To answer your question as asked.... I have never owned one but I have done a lot of research and everything points to the Tikka (between the 2 you mentioned)

Never have had a Tikka so I can't speak to those but I have had a couple Remington 223s and they have all been winners, My VS might be my favorite rifle.

I've got a Tikka Varmint X and it is a real tackdriver. I've shot 53 gr all the way up to 75 gr. bullets and it shoots 1/4 to 3/8" with just about all.223 with 8" twist and loves Sierra 53's &hornady 68' s.and they both shoot same pt. Of impact at 100yd and only 1/2" different at 200 yd.
