Dedicated predator vehicle

Mine is a 2006 1500 Silverado, Bose stereo an all kinda cool options. Okay I am spoiled. Had 1999,2003, 2004, 2005 3/4 ton heavy duty, giant motor, and now, my 2006.
It is also my "dedicated" 100 mile 5 day per week comuter, my fire wood hauler, my "quick over night camper'
my RV tower, my 4X4,..my race car, limo, and all round ride.
Just over a year ago I got this truck, I drive Red Chevy Pick-ups, thats what I drive, nuff said.
It has 39000 now, it has averaged 18.4 MPG.
I am going to drive this truck until I retire, 5 years.
I have my own plan and place to retire, and I am gonna buy a used toyota little pick up ( unless something better happens) cause I will be done towing, all I'll need is a 16' foot boat tower and a little hunting rig.
My wife has an SUV for her stuff. very low milage user.
There, alot more than you wanted to know.

Here is my new predator hunting rig. This thanks to Exxon mobile and a few other oil companies. At 3.50 a gallon for diesel a guy has got to do what a guy has to do. It's not like I'm going to reduce the number of hunting trips I go on or work more.

Here's it's predecessor.

Yeah I have to admit, I'd work more, before I made that change! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif Nothing against the new one, just prefer the old one!

...I've got a full size extended cab chevy, and the turning radius, etc excludes it from being a good trail runner.

I hear ya. I make my full size do things it really doesn't want to do a lot:

But I also end up do a lot of this:

And even a little bit of this:

No fun, at all...

I've thought about going that rout. I'm kind of looking toward the idea of a small Ford Ranger, one of Toyotas little trucks, or a Suzuki Samurai. In general cheap, abusable and good gas milage. I figure keeping an eye out in the classifieds to see if I can find something in the bargain buggies section. Maybe a little CJ.

Someone on here had some compact little 4wd that had been covered in what looked like a corn stalk patterrn vinil graphic. Something along those lines for a vehicle would be perfect.

Take a look at the Chevy Tracker for a hunting rig. The mileage is exceptional and they seem to be pretty well built. They also have a high/low range transfer case, which a few of the smaller rigs do not have. The little bugger runs well off road and I don't care if it gets marked up. I've had mine for a year now, with no real problems. I can leave my F-250 4x4 SD at home and not beat it up, which is even better. MI VHNTR

Ya, you don't realize just how heavy these trucks are until you have had one stuck. When I owned a 4x4 chevy s-10 it was no big deal to get it stuck and dig it out. My dodge is a whole different beast, no fun at all to get unstuck. I still have the dodge but when gas is almost a dollar cheaper per gallon I will use the nissan if the roads are good. It comes down to 3.50 a gallon getting 18mpg's or 2.70 a gallon getting 36 mpg's. Most of my trips are near 200 miles so it adds up. This time of year with all my other hunts/trips(birds,deer,elk,antelope,steelhead) it seems like I am filling up about once a week. Thats well over 400 dollars a month if I use the dodge exclusively.

My dedicated hunt vehicle awhile back was a 86 Samurai. It was the great for predator calling. Not a lot of room inside, unless you took the back seat out. Little booger was so light it would just glide across deep sand washes.

I sold that and bought a 04 Jeep Unlimited. Sold that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif

I do miss my jeep.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif As mentioned above the CJ-8's are a great hunting rig, popular and expensive if you find one in good condition.

Pretty much my 01 Toyota Tacama. is my go to hunting vehicle now. Lots of room for my gear. It has done well for the number of trips I've taken.

If I was hauling fur around though, I would get me one of those cargo baskets for the front or rear of my rig. Keep those fleas and other bugs out of your vehicle. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

My '87 regular cab chevy rarely finds itself in something it can't crawl out of. I give the Firestone Destination MT's on its feet most of the credit.

It's not the easiest on gas, but oh well.

Me I used to use a 1979 ford bronco. Its a beast, and not meaning to pick a fight but it has ran circles around jeeps and int. scouts. Never stuck, once tractionly impared. Since, I bought a 06 chev crew cab 3500 disel. Creature features, 20 mpg, lots of room inside, etc. keeps me driving that but just limits me to where I can go. If need be I throw my 05 sportsman 800 in the back and travel past pickup range with that. I have been pondering one of them import mini trucks. You know the ones with the 660cc motors in them, similar to atv "utv's". I seen them at a sportsman show in spokane WA for $3500-$6000 depending on options. Thats my next rig.

Are those stereo speakers under the seats in that bottom photo? Gotta play some music to sooth the savage beast? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Just looking at this today and thought I would sign up. I have a 1994 toyota 4runner that I have for a yot wagon. I will post pics later.

Here is my dedicated huntin rig. Yes, I have to get it to the hills first but the pickup never has to leave the roadside anymore. It's got a fur bucket and all.

That's a sweet little rig! I thought about getting one of those for myself... but then I remembered I live in south dakota.

That thing wouldn't provide much protection from the wind! Secondly, I wouldn't be able to use it for a good portion of the winter due to the snowfall we get here.

Man the "cool factor" is off the charts on that little buggy though! Very neat.

Not that I have much experience with them here in the dry Southwest, but you would be amazed at all the aftermarket goodies available for those things. Cab enclosures, heaters, windshield wipers, winches, blah blah blah. Wouldn't be surprised if you could get tire chains for them. Between that and the all wheel drive, it might get around in the snow pretty good.

Here's my arid country buggy. Nothin' fancy, but it works. And saves the paint on my truck!

Hmm... You know my wife was much happier when I thought I didn't need one.

You may get an angry call from her jimanaz.

Wouldn't be the first, won't be the last. However I have noticed that most of the married guys I hang out with wives don't talk to me anymore. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Heres my lil hunt wagon. 2006 Yamaha 660 Rhino 4x4. Hunter ed. Custom... Goes about ANYWHERE. As a backup we also use 2 64' International Scouts and an 89' Trooper to get us out there. have fun............
