Deer Antlers - A Market

I've got some deer antlers - from animals I've taken. Nothing for the record books but a couple of decent sets. Also have some decent sheds.

Is there a market for these at all?

Actually yes some call makers here use deer antler to make calls from, depending on what the sizes are I bet you might be able to make a trade for a call or two for these antlers. Cbosshog79, Trachcan, BearmanRick, these call makers might be your best bet.

I sold a bunch of mine on Ebay ..... the same woman bought a big part of them....asked her what she did with them and she told me she made handwoven baskets and used the deer antlers for the handles.

So there is a market out there for them if you find the right person...like mentioned above some use them for making calls.
 
I dont know if it is happening in your neck of the woods but up here in the northwest the horns and falling early and fast. my buddy found 60 whitetail sheds on saturday. I cant wait to get out this weekend. I dont do anything with mine but i cant bring myself to sell them either, they do look nice stacked next to the fireplace!!!
 
I was just thinking the same thing here in minnesota all the bucks comeing in to the feeder have lost there horns. It seems real early. Some lost theres two weeks ago. Went looking for sheds but to much snow,about two feet. Will wait till spring.
 
Those that make arrowheads use the smaller tines to do the work. Think it's called naping(sp). I gave some to a person shaping them out of obsidian and a year later I received a nice 11 inch bowie knife in a presentation case. Blade..mahogny obsidian, handle..onyx(Ithink), secured with rawhide. Nice

There is always a market but to me its not worth the low price racks are bringing right now. Scuddlebut is deer farmers have flooded the market and bought the prices down. Unless you are selling 160 class and up I would keep them. 200 class deer and up bring good money always for Taxidermy.
Craft antlers only fetch a few dollars. Unless you have a lot of them it won't get enough cash to fill your gas tank.
