Deer distress calls??

Do any of you have any luck using a deer distress call and if so what kind do you use? Most guys on here use the rabbit distress calls and I was wondering why not use a deer distress?

Most any type of enclosed or open reed call can be used as a fawn distress call. Open reed calls usually with a wider reed and wider air channel are great for adult deer distress.
I have had luck calling in does during all times of year with fawn distress but no coyotes.

One time I was screwing around with a buck with a fawn in disrtess call
He would go away and I would hit the call he would come back
Was pretty charged about the sound
Haven't tried to much for predators though but I have used it from time to time (no luck with it)

I use a custom call from Yellerdog. It is a little delrin call he calls a YDD2. The call is idiot proof [good thing eh? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif] it also does some good coyote vocals.

I call lots of coyotes each year with that call, I also call wolves and bears with it. It does a great fawn/deer distress. I call hundreds of deer with it every year. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Mostly mule deer does, but the bucks are often with them. I also call bucks that are solitary as well. The deer come into "rock" range, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif but I don't hunt with rocks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I also have called whitetails with it. we just have more mulies than whitetails here.

I have never called in a predator with the fawn distress, but on Friday there were a couple antelope out in the field, so I snuck up and started the fawn distress on my Cass Creek caller. The doe came within 25-30 yards snorting and the buck 45 yards. Pretty fun, I don't know why I can't get a predator in though.

Every time I have used the fawn in distress and there are der in the area it has called them in and they usually get pretty upset over the ordeal, will vocalize and stomp their front hooves at us. No yotes though have come in to the calls.

I have called and killed several coyotes with the fawn bawl/distress call while bowhunting in October in Texas. While I wasn't intending to attract coyotes it did the job. I've had many a doe come to the call too but never a buck.

It is a good second call to use in an area, when you return for a second or third time. It would work good if the coyotes have heard the same type of rabbit squealing, for a while. I took one old male that came in from down wind, he didn't know I was 20' above him in a boulder pile. I was using my open reed Bill Austin male call as a deer bleating. He came in under cover until the last 30-40yds, he was looking in the right area, smelling the wind, but missed my scent and I shot when he was at 35-40yds, he almost went down spun and grabbed the ground for all he was worth. I sent another 55 Nosler at him but it hit a sapling, he died on his feet just under the sapling. That was the only coyote I ever shot with a 55 Nosler in the shoulder that didn't collapse instantly.
He did everything right, but so did I! T.20
