Deer hunting in Tenn

I was wondering how the hunting is in Tenn. My wife wants to move there. What is the coyote population like there also? How much for a license?

Area L, (West TN) let's see, I think the season limit last year was over 100 deer, 3 does a day. Buck limit is 2 or 3, (all weapon types) not sure, would have to read the TWRA regs for this year, Rural West TN is over run with whitetails. Permission to hunt is another thing however. Most land is private, though there are some good public spots, and Land Between the Lakes is a huge area.

Coyotes are really building up in numbers, I took 6 last year out of my deer stands, funky rules for predator hunting, read the regs close, weapon types are restricted to what ever season is in at the moment other game wise.

www.state.tn.us/twra/huntmain.html for license info.

East TN is about the same way. TONS of deer, liberal seasons, and if you are looking into the Knoxville/Nashville/Chattanooga area, there are several areas managed by the State that offer ample deer herds, as well as feral hogs. Like was said though, it's mostly public land managed by the State, as for some reason the land owners are very reluctant to allow you on their land. Cherokee National Forest runs thru the eastern part of the state, and is a huge area that is available.

There's really lots of opportunities for the deer hunter here. Much moreso than for predator hunters.

Thanks guys, any other info you can pass on? Are there any bobcats in the eastern part of the state. Anyone familiar with the Sharpe's Chapel area? That is where my in laws live.

I'm not real familiar with that area, it's about 2 hours north of me. But it is surrounded by TWRA managed land like Catoosa WMA, Chuck Swan WMA, Royal Blue WMA, and several others. And YES, there are definitely bobcats in the eastern part of the state. (I saw one in the backyard a few weeks ago) Norris Lake is a great place to fish, if you are interested in that.

I think that TNTCHunter is a member here and lives in that general area. You might want to give him a PM.

Like was said before, predator hunters here get the short end of the stick. You're basically limited to rimfire hunting unless you're impersonating a deer hunter. It's VERY confusing in the beginning. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
