California’s trash spies
Sacramento, the capital of California — a state with a few pressing issues and major problems to deal with — will be investigating how residents sort trash. Those who incorrectly organize their trash into the provided bins — by putting plastic bags into the recycling bin, for instance — will be graded. Bins will receive either a “Great job” or a “Let’s sort this out” tag. The policy is in accordance with California’s SB 1383, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from waste disposal and slow climate change. City officials defend their spying policies by explaining that it does cost more to dispose of improperly sorted trash. Californians in recent decades have hardly met an invasive regulation they haven’t approved; perhaps that’s why the state is hemorrhaging population.

Shot/Chaser

“The SAVE Act … would literally allow this administration to rig our democracy so that it would be hard for any Democrat in any state to win any election.” —Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin

“Why would Democrats not be able to win elections if only American citizens are allowed to vote?” —Texas Congressman Brandon Gill

Dumb & Dumber

“There’s been a lot of propaganda since the Cold War and Red Scares in the United States. … Even the label ‘National Socialism’ that the Nazis used at the time was intentionally meant to trick people. … That’s why we have to emphasize the ‘Democratic’ part.” —Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) Cochair Ashik Siddique

“In the future, we might need less policing. … We actually would like our justice system to handle a real cause of crime in the country: people in the billionaire class.” —Ashik Siddique

“We just don’t see the point of the Senate. Historically, it was meant to serve very wealthy people.” —Ashik Siddique

I don't know wher Al has been. Elected dems around the country have been proving this repeatedly for many years now, not by saying that is those exact words but by their actions, as well as by what they do say:

Friendly Fire

“They don’t love America. … If we have people in our party who are so far left that they are saying, ‘We don’t want to protect people from crime,’ well, that’s just absurd.” —former Hillary Clinton adviser Al Mottur

Elissa Slotkin, the junior senator from Michigan who seems to lead the league in making statements that indicate she isn’t as smart as she thinks she is, actually said that if the SAVE America Act is passed, which would clean voter rolls and prevent foreigners from voting, it would “rig” America’s elections such that Democrats wouldn’t be able to win anywhere in the country.

This statement is absurd on some levels, but it’s also quite noteworthy on some others, in a holy-cow-did-you-just-say-the-quiet-part-out-loud? sort of way.
The most glaring absurdity in the statement is this idea that Democrats wouldn’t be able to win anywhere if the SAVE America Act were to pass. She could say something like Democrats would never be able to win a national election again, and that could well be true. In fact, we’ll get to that down the page. She could say they’d be finished trying to win a presidential election, which could also be true, but might end up true regardless, based on what Democrats are doing to themselves.

Instead, she chose demagoguery of a sort so far down the rabbit hole that it’s worth examining as an exposition of where we are with respect to political dialogue in this country.
