Dents in Brass?

I got about 1500 rounds of 223 assorted brands of brass alot of them have a dent where the case body meets the shoulder. When I send them through the fl resizer it takes some of the dent out. Will this little dent hurt my accuracy? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif Or is it just an eye sore? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif I should mention that they still chamber into my rifle fine.

Almost an identical thread as the following:

Basiclly: A lot of the military rifles dent or crease brass. Resize, load'em and shoot'em, the crease or dent will be gone and it should effect the accuracy of your rifle. Don't worry it'll be fine.

I used to worry about his sort of thing too. That was until I started fire forming AI brass. If you can move that much brass without rifle damage and still achieve great accuracy a relatively small dent won't be a problem.

Best way to get rid of them?

Shoot em. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Will give you an excuse to shoot some more. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Thanks for the advice, I was just a little worried because after resizing you could still see a little flat spot right where the body and shoulder meet.

IF, after the above advice, you're still concerned about using them there's always this one last failsafe remedy...send em to me!

CWeeks I put an ad in KSL.com asking for brass and so far I have had 2 guys call me with .223 brass. The guy I bought them from said there is 1500 or so, but it is looking like it is going to be 2000 or more. I gave the guy $40 for it. It was a 5 gallon bucket that was a little more than 2/3 full of .223. Most of it is lake city, and some federal eagle. And as a bonus there is a couple hundred rounds of 204 in there to!!

a 2/3 full 5 gallon bucket is way more than 1500 to 2000 rounds, considering you can get about 350 to 400 in a large foldgers coffee can.

How many fit in a ammo can? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Based on the description here, I would venture to say they were fired in a flawed chamber. Cant be lube dents if they have not been resized. Did they comne deprimed? If not, they were fired in a chamber that has an imperfection in the shoulder area. Either way, they should be fine to resize and shoot. One fireing and the dent will dissappear.

Probably a lot of them fired in an AR-15/M-16 - it is common for the bodies to be dented because of the little nub at the back end of the ejection port.

They are fine - I got a bulk load 50BMG cases, almost 400 pounds of them, and most have a dink in the body from M-2 Machine guns.

Means absolutely nothing!

Yeah these were once fired brass that had not been deprimed yet. Give me a week or two and I will know for sure how many I got.
