Where is the best place to buy this. I have checked and it seems to be the most popular one used. Also does this come in a kit. If not which would be the best kit for bedding. This will be a first time so need something well explained. HAPPY HUNTING

Do yourself a favor and try it... I doubt that you'll go back to AccraGlass if ya do...

Brownells sells a small container of it, but just like everything else that's good,,, it costs a little more..

I buy my Devcon from the local model airplane shop, the slow cure Devcon, not the 5 minute stuff.
I buy it in big bottles as I use a lot of it for attaching knife handles.
For stock bedding jobs, I mix fiberglass flock with the mixed, liquid state epoxy for strength.
I had been using Brownell's AcraGlass Gel, but the Devcon works also.

Give the devcon a try. When I first started I used Acraglass alot, but then after a while I switched to either Devcon or Marine-Tex, Whichever I have on hand at the time. These two cure harder and resist chemicals much better than Acraglass

I use Johnson's paste wax. For about five bucks you can get a lifetime supply with enough left over to polish all the wood stocks you and your friends own..

Brownells spray on release is excellent too (add easier to use) but it's pretty spendy... I've also heard from some guys I trust that Pam cooking spray works well too... Whatever ya use, do it twice and then add a bit more just in case...

As mentioned above,,, MarineTex is real good too,, and a little more forgiving in the mixing ratio. It's my second choice..

Devcon is what I use also.
I got mine from HERE

Brownells Acra-Release - it expensive, but a little goes a long ways and it works GREAT!!
Pam - this is my second choice.
Johnson Floor Wax.

If you decide to use pam, get the outdoor grill one, dont know the difference other than using them, it works the best. ed

I had been using Brownell's blue release agent, but Johnson's Paste Floor does an excellent job, so I use it now.
I know some guys use that wax for exterior metal protection for their rifles year round. I haven't done that, but it sure sounds like something good to do.
If anyone here has used it to protect metal on rifles, I'd be interested in what you have to say about it; good and bad.

Thanks,

Martyn

Devcon steel putty and Johnson's paste wax here. I've also used JB Weld with good results, but favor the Devcon these days.

For anyone that's switched over from Acraglas, what do you consider is the advantage? I've considered using Devcon, but the Acraglas gel I used seems to work pretty darn well. It gets real hard after a week of curing.
I'm a bit concerned that some thing like JB Weld might chip easier from actually being too hard.
Is Devcon Bedding compound actually a different product than the Devcon slow-set epoxy, or the same thing?

Thanks.

I first started using Acraglas many years ago, then after I tired Devcon Steel Putty I never used Acraglas again.

I like the fact that Devcon sets up faster. I can usually pull the action after 4-5 hrs and do the trimming if need be. Then reset the action and leave for another 4 hrs.
Depending on the temp. at the time, but the bedding is usually good to go in 3/4 days.

I guess I'm still a little confused, because those are the same times and results I get with Acraglas gel.

4-5 hours to set, trim and use after 5 days.
But I've used Devcon Steel on other things and I'm convinced it would work okay.

Started out with Acraglas but I've been using MarineTex on the last 4 or 5 and like it a lot. Brownells Acra-release work great but I agree, it's spendy. I think the M-Tex has the best shelf life if you don't use it that often. I know the Acraglas I had went bad after a couple years.
