About seventeen yeas ago, my wife had a market for Devil's Club. She was gettin 25.00/pound for the dried bark from the root. Do any of you know of a market for Devil's Club nowadays?

I don't know of a market, but have a question - How much DC does a person have to dig to get a pound of dried root bark?? Sounds like you should get enough scars after working at it for the summer to last a lifetime. I worked with a buddy from Metlakata who said he used to collect it as a kid for his Grandmom, but I forget what she used it for. Medicinal, maybe?

H20Dog, Welcome to PM. I have no idea how much bark it takes to make a pound. I want to try and find out about marketing it before I go out and torture myself doing an experiment. Do you have a water dog? I have a Chesapeake. She retrieved about a hundred ducks this year. This was her second season and she still has a lot of growing up to do but she does alright. AW

Not sure about the market for DC but know folks in AK into wildcrafting (another honorable profession) that may have a lead on one... I will keep my ears peeled... You may want to check with the U.S. Forest Service in the Tongass National Forest on the Sitka Ranger District... Sitka.

Since I am part Viking/Frieslander/Celt/Germanic in native heritage, I have cultural rights to partake in hunting, gathering, and subsistence.

While I'm not given to raiding (much)any more, I'm not above taking one of the King's Hare should I need it. Which I don't since I can harvest all I need according to the rules of the current game...

Let me know if you can find a market for DC bark that hasn't got some hogwash cultural copy write provisio attached to it.

Seems like my culture left the Mandan Villages somewhere during the dark ages, headed back to the east, built a boat, and introduced the Irish to potatoes, on our way back to the fiord with a boat load of red heads...

Cultural copy rites... bite me!

(Sorry folks, must be the full moon...)
