???Diaphram Calls???

Any of you guys got any tips on using diaphram calls for predators. I can do howls and canine pups with mine but when I try to make like a rabbit it just sounds like a crazy turkey instead. I dont want to be the affection of a love sick tom in the winter woods. Any tips on how to make the diaphram sound like rabbit or bird in distress. Thanks for the (gobble gobble-excuse me) help.

Funny thing I come home this morning and there is a post on diaphragm calls , I been foolin with a Quaker Boy Little Squealer and a H S Strut Tone Trough single d this evening at work, always had to cut alot of the tape off em so I dont get ta gagging lol.
The turkey call can get some strong sounds but still too deep to be a rabbit, but the squealer gets some nice "gutteral" squalls after you figure out how to work your tongue.
Granted I aint no big time predator hunter but I still like to collect and mess with the calls.
I had a squealer in the past that was loud as hell and sharp sounding but forget the brand, found these two when I was cleaning out my truck I just totalled, had forgot I had bought them last spring.
Any ways..... I want to know how to make some latex calls, I have heard of pill box calls etc but never really saw one or a good description of how to make one, or use one!

Using a single reed is best and the easiest to learn at first.To get a rabbit distress sound try sounding like scree screee. The multiple reeds work best for raspier sounds like canine distress.

Faw, You bring up a very old subject and calling system. That was the first knight and hale goose and turkey call that was the rage 20 something years ago.It was the begining of the call making bussiness for those two gentlemen. To make one you need a pill bottle from the pharmacy with the snap on cap instead of the screw on type. You cut a half moon shape in the top.Halfway across going to one side. Stretch the latex from a glove or whatever over the bottle then snap on the lid.There must be a tiny gap between the edge of the latex and the straight side of the cut in the top.To use it place the latex reed against the upper lip and blow gently down into the bottle if I remember correctly. I made several of htese years ago and had nearly forgotten all about them.Jimmie

Thanks I guess I need to get a single reed instead of a 3 reed call. Any other tips anyone anyone??

Okbow68, thats all I use, I like elk calls, doubles, so when you call, just go, Waaa--Waaa, Waaa-Waaa, and sound like your sick, and dying, rabbit, or sick, then being chased,(excited), then caught,by a coyote,(excited let me go), wait about 30 seconds, and give out a howl, but yet, I have friends that sound like a dying cow, LOL, and coyotes show up

Hey Jimmie I was at a gunshop last weekend pickin up some ammo and bought a twin pack knight&hale raspy reed diaphram call. Been practicing with it got the puurs, clucks and kee kee calls down pritty good, I noticed when I messed up it sounded like something sick. Or like okbow68 said a crazy turkey. It's a hard call to learn.

If I remember correctly one of the Knight and Hale predator kits includes a single reed diaphram call. I once bought one of them as a single item.It made some pretty good howls with practice. Funny thing about practice is you don't know whether to chew the blasted thing or up chuck /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Jimmie

tried my first pill bottle tonite came out ok at least it did work , made noise etc, now i need to fine tune me one lol. Also I cut down my diaphragm calls alot so I dont have that cough it up feelin!
