Thanks. I use a Redding Type S with bushing for neck sizing my .233. Can I use a larger bushing for neck sizing the 6x45 or do I have to buy a whole new die? I know I need a full-sizer die with a tapered expander.
I checked with Hornady. They do not make a 6x45 die. They have a 6mm - 223 which could work in a 6x45 chamber. As I see it, 6mm-223 is a wildcat. The 6x45 has now been recognized by (registered with - not sure what the proper term is) SAAMI and it has formal specs: http://www.saami.org/PubResources/CC_Drawings/Rifle/6x45mm.pdf
So I guess on to Redding and their response.
6mm-223 and 6x45 same thing. You will find out redding will have same as hornady. If you order one from redding you will have to get a different seating stem. When I got the redding 6mm-223 dies I could not set the 60-75gr bullets that I wanted to shoot deep enough and called them and they sent me a different stem.
I know this is an old thread but was going to build a 6x45 was gonna order redding dies should I order a 3 die set or just the 2 die set or the other option I saw was the short base die set.
I run the redding 2 die set. One thing you will need is if they have not started yet is to change the seating stem out. I had to do it in order to seat the 70gr bullets for the ar. I don't remember exactly what the part # was but I called redding and they sent me what I needed at no charge. Have never ran into a need for the small base dies. And I use alot of range brass for the 6x45.
I currenly do intial forming with a Sinclair expander ms ndrel. I use a Redding FL Type S bushing die leaving the decapping rod in place with the pin holder button not the expander. Ni use a Hornady 6 MM seater for thst chore.
Before I discovered the bushing dies I used Hornady 6X223 dies for my three rifles. I have two sets of them. I bought my first ine in 1989 or so.
I'm in no hurry I'm going to order my barrel next week from BHW so its going to be a wile for that anyways plus its cheaper from precision. Thanks though I checked midway first.
my 6x45 dies are c&h.... and before i got them i was running a fl 223 die and then i would run the brass up a 6mm die and then run it back the 223 die to seat the bullet...
