wanting to start shooting coyotes at night . Coyotes are all call and light shy and going to be shooting off bait pile . I don't think I want to wait for the cheaper digital stuff you can't get until April . I need something now . I like the setup the HTRN sells but might just go with scope since I wont be calling . I am looking at a model 845 NV scope any others out there ? anyone have on they would like to sell? Thx! Mark

HTRN would be great over a bait setup. Used one Sunday to make a 220 yard shot DRT. A 845 might be fine for calling but your going to want higher magnification for bait hunting.

Get the sightmark photon 3.5x now and start hunting, check Hunt tx hogs video review on you tube.

I think you need scope rings they are not included. Then save for whatever you want you will get your money back when you sell the digital, might lose a few bucks to make it a great deal for the next person. You might just keep it and get a good IR illuminator and be set.

If I had all my cash in hand and was on a tight budget, I would go ps24 for detection.
photon 3.5x rifle mount, with t20NV illuminator.
under 2500.00 and will produce more kills then any gen3 nv alone.
The detection capability of the thermal blows NV away.

If cash is a factor. the digital will get you hunting in a few days.

Money no object 640 core with 100mm lens, you can ID out to 150yds, even the collar on the dog

ls64 for scanning.
Gen 3 pvs14 for head mount with 5x hand held lens to use for long range ID, torchpro or t20 head mounted. setup will set you back around $25k. You will be good for 2 or 4 legged critters, also suppressor is very nice.

Gen 3 all the way!! I bought a digisight after having my D740 for a year. I sold it a week later and bought a PVS 14 night enforcer to compliment the D740. Become a member of DVOR. They have great deals on Gen 3 NV at least monthly. Saw a gen 3 manual gain d740 for 3300 recently.

I just bought the 5x and a UNV20ir. Waiting on rings. I will be using a head mounted light for detection. The goal is to get a PS24 before next year. I think with this setup you are exactly right. Lots of fur to hit the ground. Especially if your hunting area will have low "thermal clutter".

I own both and there has not been one instance that the ls64 has detected any critter that the ps24 would not detect.

But I have had the ps24 detect where the ls64 would not. Keep in mind I tilt the ps24 upwards or downwards to cause the auto adjustment to change either hotter or colder, which this does not work with the ls64. So using the little tricks I have figured out with the ps 24 it has not let me down just wish it had 2x ezoom which flir chose to not enable.
Believe me after spending $5k on the ls64 I would prefer that it would blow the ps24 away, I just can't say that it does and you can see the pics. Now others have said in areas with hot spots it works better. I believe them but it has not given me that warm and fuzzy feeling from the get go and this is my second one so it's not a bad unit. I do have to say that the ps24 I have is the best one I have looked thru don't know if the tech did a better then avg job on the alignments.

One thing that a PVS-14 or MX-160 will get you over all other NV setups is great versatility. You can use these units as monoculars for spotting, mounted behind a dayscope, mounted behind an Eotech, hands free operation with a headmounted goggle using a laser sight, and whatever else the military comes up with in the future. Is it any wonder why the most powerful military in the world uses the PVS-14? It can basically do everything very well and you can use it for anything you want all year long (not just during hunting season as is the case with dedicated NV riflescopes). You can also transfer it from firearm to firearm without re-zeroing. You can use the same firearm for daytime operations as well as night. There are some that claim it is only a short range weapon sight, however, my DVDs have proven them to be very effective beyond 300 yards even in poor light conditions when outfitted with a good IR device. I don't know how much further one needs to shoot after dark. Check out our options here and be sure to give me a call if you have questions:

One thing with the pvs-14 as well, I use thermal for shooting and detecting.
The pvs14 for ID, and it will pick up anyone using lights from along ways away.
Where with thermal only, I have seen vehicle lights 1 mile away were thermal can't see a heat signature due to trees or high berms. So from this, if I was using thermal only I could have a vehicle drive to within a few hundred yards before the heat signature would be seen. The fields I hunt have high dirt berms on some of the roads. With the pvs14 I can see any vehicles lights for miles before they get into the area I hunt. So I would not feel very safe especially along the US Mexico border with just NV or just thermal, but using both I am only seen when I want to be seen as I can detect anyone from along ways off and avoid them if necessary
