Dillon 550B Progressive Set ups...

Guys...I bought a Dillon 550 about a year ago and just love the thing. It came ready for .223's, but wanted to stuff some .40S&W's first. Had to change out the primer seat deal which was a minor pain...Have also loaded .357mags, and now want to switch it back to .223Rems.

Do you all keep switching your machines back and forth from large to small primers to go from rifle to pistol, or do most of you buy two 550's and designate one solely for pistol and the other rifle? It's not all that big a deal, just curious.

I'm finding myself loading more ammo than I'm discharging, so my stockpile is growing!!! gobblr addict

I switched mine out for 10 years. Wore out the two threaded holes in the bottom of the primer assembly. Dillon sent me a brand new one...... under warranty, 80 bucks worth of parts.

Yes I bought a basic 550 and have it mounted next to the old one, I use one for small primers the other for large.

I have one 550 & swap out as needed. For me that's not that frequent a thing so not a big deal.

If I was having to do it a lot I'd get a 2nd press.

Powder measures are a different story. I don't mind adjusting them but don't like swapping out charge bars, so I have 3. One set up with a small bar, one large & the 3rd magnum.

Stu...You are right about the powder measure charge bars...I have two measures but may purchase a third for the mags!

Furhunter...I love that setup...Professional!

I have one 550 press with quite a few tool heads set each with there own powder towers and dies like Furhunter has. It doesn't take but 10 minutes to change the tool head, plate, and primer arm when I change calibers. Love the Dillon.

I swithed mine up until last week when I sort of inherited the second one. Having your tool heads set up saves some time, but it is more money invested into more powder measures and tooling. You'll have to decide if a second press is what you want.

Got lucky and picked up a second 450 for $125 so have one set up for each primer. Both have been upgraded to 550 w/exception of the frame and I don't mind changing out dies.

I do have two measures, one for pistol and one for rifle. Load all my magnums on single stage press since I never load more than 50 rounds of these at a time.

Regards,
hm
