dirt hole set ???

i've read everything I can find on dirt hole sets and need a question answered.
I've read to dig the hole angled under the backing, but could you use a telephone pole, and dig at an angle down to the pole? There are lots of field roads with power poles along them where I could trap. And there is allways tons of coyote sign (scat and tracks)on these field roads.
I guess i could use the grass around the poles if I had to.

Lots of items will work as backing. Grass tuft, slight embankment, piece of wood. I would worry more about finding a good location first, then find or import a backing. If the telephone pole is in the right spot it should work just fine.
 
find the area with the most sign, then sit your butt down on the ground, take a look around and what ever pops out at you is where you want to make your set
