Dirtiest bore I ever seen....

On another forum a person had his 22-250 Rem borescoped by two different gunsmiths and they told him that the throat was burned out and he was looking at getting a new barrel as the burn out was so long that it could not be set back and rechambered. A friend that did a lot of rebuilds on old muzzel loaders told him to try Shooter's Choice Black Powder Cleaning Gel Bore Cleaner. He said he let it sit on the throat area two hr. for two times and the rifleing in the throat megicaly reappeared. I have used it on a friends 8mm lebel that wanted me to reload for and I am sure I was getting carbon out from 1897. It will also work on Bar-B-Q grills put is too expencive to use for that.
 
Well after finally getting the bore clean last night, I took the Savage out today and ran 80 rounds through it. The first couple 5 shot groups were scary...about 3" @ 100 yards
The third 5 shot group shrank down to 1 1/2" and I was hoping that the following groups might shrink a little more, but 1 1/2" groups @ 100 yards with the cheap Remington factory ammo is about as good as this one is going to do.
While 1 1/2" groups are not spectacular by any means, I feel they are acceptable considering the ammo being used, and they are consistant, with a couple 10 shot groups no larger than 1 1/2" @ 100 yards also. One other good thing about this session is that I found that the hollow points feed flawlessly in this particular Savage. I have encountered other Savages that you had to load hollow points into the chamber by hand.
All in all I am satisfied with it, accuracy with cheap factory ammo is good enough for Coyotes and groundhogs and handloading should produce much more accurate ammo for it.
 
So you have to run half a box of ammo down the tube to foul it enough to start shooting 1.5" groups? That sucks. Hopefully your handloads if you reload will shoot better, or hopefully you can shoot a lot of rounds before you lose those groups.
 
No, the rifle was shooting 1 1/2" groups from the start when I first got it. I was just hoping that since it was a used rifle, that an extreme cleaning might give smaller groups, thats why I cleaned it until I could pull no more blue on the patches last night.
Bear in mind also that the ammo Im using (Rem. 45 gr. HP bulk ammo)is not known for being the most accurate ammo either...Im sure that some premium factory ammo or handloads would cut the group size way down on the rifle, I just dont have any right now. I got the bulk Remington ammo cause It was a decent price for a case of ammo and I will have brass for reloading later when I get set back up for it.
