A month ago my partner and myself entered the southern az championship. I wanna say there was 26 teams but I can’t remember exactly and you had to hunt in the state of Arizona.
First morning started pretty slow with the first two stands drawing blanks. We killed our first coyote on the third stand and from there on out the coyotes kept rolling in all day long. We ended up killing 18 coyotes and a bobcat all on public land for day one, it was my personal best day of calling I have ever had, 15 was the best I have done before that.
Day two was the same story the first two stands were blank but on the third stand we killed our first coyote. By 12:30 we had killed 12 more to put us at 30 coyotes and a cat in a day and half. We packed up and hauled [beeep] to checkin and got there just in time.
I was on a mission to beat a few individuals but never in my wildest dreams did I think we would kill 30 coyotes in a day and half on public land. All the stars aligned perfect for us I guess, weather was good, coyotes were moving good, stand selection was awesome and our shooting was even better. My partner shotgunned 13, I shotgunned 5 and rifled 12. We killed 3 double 1 triple and the rest were singles. Probably did close to 35-40 stands day one and probably 20+ day two, it’s all becomes a blur when are running back and forth between stands and driving like a mad man. It was definitely a weekend I will never forget and I doubt I will ever top that record in Arizona, we were blessed to get to experience something like that.
