Disappointed in Boyds Gunstocks

I ordered a thumbhole bull barrel stock for my Savage Model 12 and it took me over a month to receive it. I called numerous times and also emailed several times with no response whatsoever. Finally I messaged them on Facebook and finally received a response saying it would be done in about a week. When I finally got it after over a month of waiting it was completely the wrong one. It was for some type of long action rifle for a standard barrel. I Facebook messaged them because they wouldn't reply to my phone calls or emails. They apologized and sent me a shipping label. They said I would have the correct one in 5-7 days. 2 weeks later I finally received the right one and its actually for the right gun this time but the the trigger guard area is going to need a lot of work because the trigger guard wont even go into it. I figured after having to send one back already and waiting for such a long time they would make sure everything is correct. It'll be the last time I ever use Boyds. Very disappointed.

I had a very good experience with, I ordered a pro varmint for a marlin xs7vh, got a shipping notice next day and received it in 3 days. Was a perfect fit.

Lots of other places out there to buy laminate stocks from for the $$ you can get one from Boyds. I've got 4 or 5 of them no problems other than minor fitting (your trigger guard), mistakes can happen they made it right what more do you want?

I've had good luck with Boyds Savage stocks, I've ordered two. I will say that I ordered a custom short LOP and I ordered a metal trigger guard from them to fit both of them. Actually I ordered four metal trigger guards and put the other two in my tupperware stocks as I keep splitting the plastic trigger guards at the rear action screw. The fit has been so good that I haven't even had to bed them.

Some might recognize this one, it shoots very good.

I sounds like you haven't worked with guns a lot. Just a month and a half to get a custom stock and they replaced their mistake with out a [beeep] and sent you a return label. That would be a speed record for some companies out there and their stocks cost two to four times as much and their are quite a few guy on the net that [beeep] about how many times they've had to send them back. It took six months to get my barrel.

I've put Boyd's stocks on 8-9 rifles over the years. Never had a single problem with any of them, except I have to enlarge all the barrel channels on my LH rifles since they never offer LH stocks for heavy barrels. I always order them unfinished, and finish them myself.Their factory finish doesn't look very good to my eyes.

Here's the last one I did on my 6.5-06 build.

I had great service from them back in Nov. Got the new sky blue for baby girls rifle in 3 weeks. Perfect fit, free floating barrel.
Nice color Tx.

Brother that is nothing. First I waited 6 weeks. Then they could not tell me why the bolt for my 870 did not fit and what I needed(the shorter one remington makes is also too long). After many emails their answer was we don't know figure it out yourself. The color was also mismatched. That took 3 months to get a reply on and many e mails. I sent a picture they said return it. I got a label and mailed it off. That was 3 months and 8 days ago. I e mailed nearly 2 weeks ago and no reply. That is 6 months and it is still not resolved! When (if ever) it is resolved. I will post the entire email and a review of their stock. The stock is descent, the service is horrid. I loath Boyds Gunstocks.

Had to do a little scraping of finish and my B-mag stock fit fine. It took about a month to get it. Sounds minor compared to problems listed above.

I've bought two Boyds stocks over the years....both transactions were painless....they even let me make a last minute change on the second one (added checkering) the day it was headed out the door....
That said.....there's just to many stories like the one above in the last year or so for them not to have some merit....

I must have been lucky. I have had no problems with them or their products and they were very helpful when my lovely wife surprised me with a new stock for my 7mm Rem mag for Christmas. She had no idea what to look for and they hooked her up Phat! I would use them again for a new wood stock.

A month wait is nothing in the gun world. If you are picking options and they are making it to order for you, what do you expect? I don't remember how long my several Boyds took to come in but it was much faster than other options (McMillan was 4-5 months).

You should expect minor fitting with any stock. This is just part of the game. I would rather need to spend a few minutes with the Dremel than have visible gaps because they have to accommodate for the loose tolerances and multiple variations inherent to the products of most manufacturers.

I've purchased somewhere around 20 Boyd's stocks in the last 10, 12-ish years. Read the fine print, and have a bit of patience, there aren't any surprises. I call to order about half of the time now, always used to have to call, the nice part about ordering over phone is the ability to ask - so, how busy are you right now, so how long should I expect to wait?

Guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I've dealt with them - relatively - a lot, and have never had an issue getting responses, or getting the right products for my firearms.

I had no problems with boyds....I went threw my waiting period of 2 weeks...and received it..I know there busy and always in the shop.
