Dispatching Animals

What does everyone use to "dispatch" the animals caught in your traps? Figure a .22 would be plenty with minimal pelt damage. Any help is appreciated.

Lung shot with a .22 works good for me. I've heard of some guys using there heel to step down on there lungs till there gone, never tried it.

depends on what the critter is.

a bobcat, a choke pole, you can choke down a bc pretty quick,

a coon, fox, yote, anything else other then a beaver, mustkrat, mink, gets a .22lr to the lungs. used to shoot them in the head, but I dont like the bloody mess that needs cleaned up after wards.

if I have a beaver, muskrat, or mink that doesn't go down the slide wire, its a smack to the head with the trapping trowel.

.22 right in the head, been doing that since I started trapping 3 years ago but this coming trapping season lung shot because I'm going to start skulling.

'Another' tool that I carried for a long time was a 3 foot piece of broom handle, carved to fit the wrist pin from a piston; pounded in as tight as it would go. As JE says, a thump to the neck works wonders with minimum damage.
