DIY decoy....fur or feathers?

Hi Vaportrail

I dont mean for anyone to climb a tree to clip the decoy up.
just find your stand set your call next to the decoy just
like a ground set up. You wont be compromising yourself
any more than usual.
would you be interested in trading a decoy and I could
pay you the difference? Sometimes I call in wide open areas
and wished I had a good ground decoy.

Thanks
Rich

thanks for all the input guys. im kinda rough of hutnign stuff so i need something that id durable and i also like to pack lightly.

the remains of animals that i see most often around here are cottontails, turkey, racoons and deer.

i also find alot of scat that is full of long grasses and other leafy material with a tiny bit of fur in it. maybe i should just hang some grass from a tree? :)

would a whitetailed deer tail be a good idea? i was thinking of attaching it to a brittle spring and then attaching the spring to a sapling or something. would there be enough movement from litght wind?

The deer tail will work with just a couple of feet of fishingline, no need for the spring.Same with a turkey feather. A tiny bit of movement is all that is needed to get a predators attention. This rig can be attached with just a wrap or two around any kind of limb or weed stalk.

Reactions to decoys are diferent depending on mechanical or organic. With an organic such as the tails and feathers they will continue to move and look around a bit more always looking at the decoy occasionally, giving several shot oportunities. I have seen them walk up within thirty feet of a mechanical and stare for a minute or more with more of a curious look to them. The problem with that is there may be a cedar with a death wish between you and the predator.I scarred that poor cedar for life ;-)and the Kytimberman is still laughing about it to this day.
