DNT Zulus 3x12

Well, my DNT Zulus 3x12 arrived and I got to play with it a bit. It’s small! Being used to my old ATN X-Sights and now my AGM Spectrum tube digital night vision, it pales in comparison size-wise, like half their size.

The one I ordered is not the LRF model. The integrated infrared light is pretty anemic but I’m a staunch Sniper Hog Light Hyperion user. But it does work, only thing I’m not yet sure about is how long the one 18650 battery will last as I haven’t used it for more than an hour. I have a bunch of back-up 18650’s and a large capacity reserve battery that I hang on my tripod that should make available power a non--issue as long as I’m in a blind and on a tripod.

The digital image quality is stellar. Truly impressive. Crystal clear during daylight and darkness (with a decent IR light). Refresh rate is more than acceptable. As I said, I’m an AGM user so the DNT button functions are driving me nuts as I’m not at all used to the layout and function. Took me 10 minutes to set the time and then back out of that menu. The “manual” that came with it is no help at all. Just have to figure out how each function works on my own. Wi-Fi and app connected and work fine although initial video transfer to my phone was a little jerky. Once downloaded the files played smoothly.

The function buttons are SMALL and they all have the same shape on top so in total darkness finding the right one will be an adventure. The zoom wheel is totally way to small and will be impossible to use with gloves on. The objective focus ring is partially blocked by the integrated IR light / battery compartment making focus a little more difficult than it has to be. The removable 18650 battery is super common and a nice choice for power.

I’ve yet to play with all the functions but it sure is feature packed. Base magnification at 3x works for me, at 12x it’s still acceptably clear. Here in my area in NY where I do most of my hunting, a 100 - 150 yard shot is about max. Factory loaded reticle choices are so-so. As long as it holds zero it should be a keeper.

That’s about it until I get the time to learn and play with all the features. As of now, I think it was more than worth the $383.00 (which included NY tax and free shipping). What rifle it will reside on is yet to be determined but if all goes well they are only $383 …….

Well Everything a little anemic, when you comparing it to the Snip,Hog. lights ...LOL
My hunting buddy took out his Zulu 5-20 couple weeks back . The IR is a little week, but that not really problem. That on-board IR if mounted way back on the rifle with the scope.
Zulu Does project a good image in the viewer screen . I was checking it out the Zulu IR Illum. real close with wearing pvs14. Mounted way back on the rifle on the scope . When the IR turned/On . it was making a Crapload of reflective bloom all way down the rife, reflecting all way to the suppressor. That adds to a little washout to the image.

I own a couple of Sbip.Hog IRm using with both a NV clip-on and a NV scope . I pretty positive the image would even be Nice 'cleaner' you sticking that SniperHog Ir mount out front on handguard, away from the scope . really cuts down the reflective bloom that contaminates the Obj. lens of scope.
.

So how does the image quality compare to the AGM?
Both scopes, 12x, same day & time at the club range I belong to.

That's interesting that both scopes are supposed to be on the same power (12x) because the DNT definitely appears to be zoomed in more. I wonder if you backed it out so they would both be the same magnification, if the DNT would clear up.

I have 2 of the Zulus 5 x 20 HDR and 2 therm nights a 635 R and a 335 R, I have them on airguns and shoot frequently out to 300 yards the ballistics are spot on I love them.. they have Preformed flawless.
Thanks for the writeup..
