Do any of you call Raccoons? Need advice?

The last coon I called in was back in March.I had spotted it in a tree before even calling. It just sat there and looked at the light until I began calling with my Burnaham Bros. mini blaster.Once I started calling it quit looking at the light and I guess made his way outta the tree and began sneaking my via the creek bed about 40 yards away.

I thought I had just scared him off because I never seen his eyes again.(about the way my luck runs sometimes)

I continued calling hoping to maybe call up a bobcat or a coyote.(I actually thought this might have been a bobcat in the tree)Then I thought I would check out the tree under the full beam and full power on my scope.I studied the tree thinking maybe the bobcat had just moved to another branch and wasn't interested in my call.Racoon never even entered my mind(I kept thinking it was a bobcat)I went back to blowing on the call and scanning the area to no avail, nothing was even looking my way. Then the wind died down to nothing and I heard the grass rustle beside my Bronco about 15 feet away,I shined my light and wah lah! There is this boar kinda setting on his haunches with his right paw raised in the air like he wanted to fight. It all happened so fast I swung my chair around and got him in my scope all 14X power and all.(I forgot to lower the power setting after scanning the tree)Needless to say at that range all I could see in my scope was a ball of blurred fur.I looked over my scope as I didn't have time to turn the power down and took the shot.I hit him square in the chest and he dropped like a rock.
up until the time I seen him I thought I was calling a bobcat.

This is twice this has happend to me the last time I had a big sow coon jump out from behind a cedar tree and scare the sh!# outta me( I thought it was a bobcat wanting to climb in my lap)I pointed seen fur and shot, only to find out when I went to pick it up it was a coon.

Here is a pick of the big sow I took.just for comparison the bbl on my ar is 16"

I use the s-2 short range mouth call by Burnham Bros. Several co. make this call with a woodpecker sound just really get after it they like excitement. I will also just use it by itself its great for cats that stall on you also. lots of excitement is the key though and they usually come running.

I think that I have called in a coon before, Im not sure if I actually called him in because I live with a dry creek bed in my back yard and the coons come and eat everybodies vegetables. Anyhow I was calling with a Johny Stuart PC-1 and trilled into it, it came in and walked right into my snare that I set. I dont think that I called it in because these coons wald within 5 feet of you and dont even care. I like to think that I called it in though.

I've called a lot of coons, some during the day, but mostly at night or dusk. I make really wimpy sounds like a baby cottontail, and squeeks. Reading the posted responses this seems to be pretty much the norm. I also call pretty constantly with not alot of breaks in between. I use a crit r call pee wee.

My stepdad is going out now to try some coon at night, I'll let you know how he fairs out. As far as day time gos I have no idea think it would be pretty tough they are hard to even trap during the day.

I was out the day after thanksgiving and called 2 right out of the trees they were denning in , used my foxpro while playing raccoon distress . Smack dab in the middle of the day , it had been real cold and the daytime highs got into the mid 30's . I just waited til it warmed up before I went .

All snow up here in NE Ohio , Ive been waiting on the warmer days . If it gets at least up into the 30's mid day I will usually try to get out and make a few stands . The colder weather has had them denned up , calling coons in the daytime is defintely a blast . I havent had any come out and attack my decoy yet , just had a few come out of the holes and look around on a nearby limb . Still fun though !
