Do any of you hunt solo at night?

I'd have to say it's more fun hunting with one of my hunting buddies. The conversations, the jokes, the shit talking. . . it's just more fun. Besides, when I'm by myself, I'm just talking to myself and that's just weird.

Since Joe opened the border. CO here in MN have had to watch public ground for drug deals(public boat access is common location). Sheriff's have said CO is better equipped for field type surveillance. Lots of drugs moving in rural areas. And squatters are common.

I'm surprised your governor doesn't have that under control.

He's dealing with HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in fraudulent COVID meals providers and now fraudulent transportation services for school children. Mostly by Somali "immigrants". My guess, huge taxpayer money laundering scam (to dem candidates/voter fraud plan). See Ilhan Omar.

I hunt solo at night quite a bit, mostly on private land I know well, and I do take a few precautions that help me feel a little more confident out there. Around here in Idaho, I’ve run into cats and bears more than once, but nothing’s ever come close enough to make me feel like I was in real danger. Still, I always run thermal, keep the Foxpro 50–75 yards out, and set up with the wind in mind so predators don’t circle behind me.

I use a headlamp on low red for walking, and I never go in blind—always scout in daylight first. If I’m off trail, I’ll wear gaiters or snake boots depending on temps, and I carry a sidearm, not for coyotes, but for peace of mind. Solo hunting can be quiet and productive, just don’t get complacent and trust your gear.

Fun Last Night , No Moon, pretty dark out. Walking while at same time engrossed with Scanning ... AG land, and Apparently someone dug a Hole to repair a perforated drain pipe about 3' x 3' deep . buddy walking behind me with Monoc. on head/helmet said he heard something, Looked. and I was gone. I stepped in it and bit it pretty hard. PVS14 smacked me in eye with Ocular housing, no other hurt and no equipment damage to the other gear I had on .

I crawled into bed last night after 03:00, and woke up this morning to this .

So there ya go, giving night hunting a black eye. Sorry, TDMMDI:devilish:. Joking aside, glad you weren't seriously hurt; might expect that out in the boondocks, but not in a cultivated field.

Did u kill any coyotes?

OHhhh it was just one of those nights like I never had before . Walking-in, before even set-up, and seen a coyote, but don't think he seen me, as he was at least 300+ yards off. But lost him on the scanner, Zero idea where he went. then set-up, Did a couple calls on the shokwave and got zero run-in's . About midnight or little after I went for the hand call. With the open reed got a response. Spotted a dog coming in fast from an orchard, BUT I totally fuckedup everything I was touching last night. I had zero timing, instinct, and I possessed the dexterity of a chimpanzee, TOTALLY blew the setup and no shot on a dog that was well within range.
Then on top that, was shutting down and getting ready to walk out. walking down below a earth dam to some lower ground area to pick-up my FP call. Then stepped/FELL into a muddy water hole up to my ass, shoving my Monoc. into my EyeBall. Went from my usual apex dog killer. To getting totally kicked off my High Horse in a few short hours last night.

My first thought would have been ... "I hope my night vision is okay."
checked everything over yesterday. toothbrushed all the dried dirt off. pvs14 is OK, no cracked housing and the sacrificial Obj. 920nm lens filter was not really scuffed to bad. My ocular end of this pvs-14 runs an Amber lens. The threaded housing on the amber lens is Big 'Round' edge to it. So I pretty sure that kept the Monoc. from really cutting on the hit. The Therm Scanner that I had in my L-hand, and hanging on a lanyard around neck was OK also . All could have been worse with a $$$-repair or replacement of gear .

I normally do all my foot travel with also paying attention of my surroundings. I have been using pvs14's for more than 30 years with foot travel, and have never taken a hard fall. Even though the ground was open and clean of debris, I just should have Not been walking and scanning with head up ass. was a good wake up call ( being complacent ) with running into a hidden landmine... 3'x3' hole
As far as ' hunting Solo ' I never really ever hunted with anyone ever till last year. I still go out Solo also . I always hunted nights for many years just by myself. Is just a different energy at Night with hunting alone, and I always have liked that.

Been hunting solo at night in California and Nevada going on 50 years now seen a few sorry ass sidewinders I just kick them aside with me boot LOL. Seen one Greenback that was back in the 80's on a warm August night. These days I usually start my hunting in Oct, sometimes late Sept and don't run into any of the little bastids but I'm still on high alert for them. I hunt out of a hatch built into my camper at night, walkouts during the day you just have to be aware of your suroundings and know your limitations. I take my time walking out day or night you have to look up into the brush for snakes not just on the ground. I enjoy being by my lonesome out there at night never been dive bombed by Owls and or Hawks either. Couple of the guys in the club would ask if I worry about being out there hunting alone at night? I reply, " It's the same desert at night as it is during the day".

all kinds of things go "Bump" in the dark. but when you are sitting there calling and havent seen or heard anything for an hour. then stand up to go get the call and something that sounds bigger than a horse runs down thru the woods behind you....made me move and twist faster than Michael Jackson and chubby checker together.

i went home.

Solo night hunter.

Scared of the dark, or what’s in it?… Nope.

Run ins with wildlife. Worst has been owls that dive bomb you.

Run ins with domestics…
#1. Red Angus bull! Total jerk.
#2. Race horses are a close second to a Red Angus bull. Jerks!
#3. Sneaky Ram sheep that sneaks up unbeknownst and lets out a sound that turns you inside out!
