Do coyotes eat deer?

I doubt a live cat would get messed with by coyotes, but I would put my money on a bobcat vs. a coyote. Cats are much better designed in a one on one battle.
 
Bobcat would easily win the one-on-one, but in reality it would be a two-on-one, which he would lose. I have a friend who fox hunts English style, and he has seen a cat whip 3 dogs before the pack takes him down.

The above work was done in a little over 6 hours. The cat was 33" long, which is pretty big for down here.
 
Pics and stories like this piss me off. I know it's part of nature and I respect the coyotes survival skills but my #1 love is archery deer hunting and then turkey hunting. I see the coyote as my competition and don't like it. I wish the OP's story ended with a dead dog.
 
I know the answer to that question and always have. It was just an introduction to the photo. I tried to kill that coyote twice, his momma didn't raise no dummy.

Coyotes do their fair share of damage to herds, but they can't hold a candle to the damage Mt. Lions do. For some reason coyotes get the bad rep and lions remain golden go figure?

jmo but niether would mess with each other if both were 100%. if it was a life or death battle a coyote would smoke a bobcat in nothing flat. bobcats are thin skinned with no staminia compared to a coyote. your friends fox hounds are baying dogs, not bred to dispatch foxes,coyotes,bobcats, ect...throw those same 3 dogs on a coyote, first off it would whip them and be waiting on the next 3 and then have enough left to run again another day.

on two occasions I've had bobcats coming in and were treed by coyotes. The coyotes were just coming to the call but the cat acted as if they were after him. On another occasion I had a bobcat and coyote show up at the same time and it scared the heck out of both. They each saw each other at the same time then wheeled around and ran. neither one came back.

By the way.....Bobcats take a lot of fawns too. I've also seen a study that proves they do take adult deer too. The study stated that wild cats (bobcats to tigers) can and do kill prey that is 10 times their body weight (25# bobcat,250#deer). I however have never seen any evidence of bobcats killing calves.

Which would win between bobcat and coyote?????? I doubt that they have many conflicts in the wild as I believe they would tend to avoid each other.If thrown in a pen together, one on one, I would put my money on the cat. They are the most efficient killers in the animal kingdom. Their front claws act almost like ripping hooks, They can grab their oponent and hold him as if they have thumbs. Once a cat mugs up on its prey and gets it jaws on its throat it is all over. Pound for pound a cat is a tough customer. I agree that the coyote will have more stamina but I doubt the cat would let a one on one conflict go on until stamina was an issue. I believe the cat would win in the first round. If it went ten rounds the coyote just might win, but I would bet he would be a bloody mess.

One would think that makes sense, but according to my buddy, it never happens that way. The yote invariably runs himself nearly to death, then the pack finishes him off with ease. Cats, probably because of their smaller lung capacity, don't play that game. They go down in a blaze of glory.

I'm with Byron on this one. What the cat lacks in stamina, it makes up for in reflexes, speed and strength.

The cat does not hold a candle to a coyote in a corner. A guy here traps coyotes and foxes on his land to put in a high fence area for dog hunts. He has a small pen in his back yard, about 10 x 50, that he keeps them in until h gets enough to move to the big pen. There is no trees in the pen for a cat to climb. When he catches cats he puts them in the pen for the yotes to eat. The cat will not last long at all in the pen. Out in the open may be a different story.

i cantsay i agree on the methods of your neighbor, hunting and cruelty are 2 completely different genres. anywase i doubt a yotie one on one with a bobcat could stand a chance
 
100% Bobcats that get in his traps. They will corner him and make quick work of him. Once a yote gets him around the throat he will flop him like a rag doll. The cats I have seen usually sull until it is to late. A coon puts up a better fight.

thats kinda messed up, im all about huntin. but just to capture a trophy animal like a bobcat and then just let dogs tear him up. cant say i like it.

to each thier own i guess

cooping a bobcat up with live coyotes which im sure is illegal to have is a man made masterbation.....pure enjoyment at best!
 
I deer and turkey hunt mostly. Just started coyote hunting and not for fun but to thin them down. He is not putting the cats in to watch the fight but to feed the coyotes. If they are not hungry they will not bother him until they get hungry. And it may be nature but when a cat climbs in my fawn pen and kills a $2500 fawn it becomes personal to me. I would kill all the coyotes and cats in Alabama if I could.
