Do I really need a Carry permit?

Me and my old lady have our permits, and Iowa is now a carry state but I only carry open when I'm out hunting/trapping... And on those "no firearm signs" if I see them I ask them why they have them up and then I tell them I won't ever come back use my money here...

If you carry on your ankle thats cool if you can conceal it. My opinion on the agressor is still debatable. If I am walking to my car after dinner or from a movie and there are a couple of hood rats following me I would so much rather have a weapon where I can grab the butt and be ready and have to reac for my ankle. If you fel uneasy at least you have it at the ready. If you wear it on your ankle and have to reach for your weapon and then raise up but the hood rat has not made any attempt to rob you or steal your car weather he has a weapon or not you may find your self on the wrong sie of the law even though you were concerned for your safety. Your weapon came into play first. Also I do remember an article I read a few years back cocerning police officers. 94% that shot expert in the academy missed their target in actual shootings.

Psycodog, if you're leaning towards the .380 as your carry caliber, add a Diamondback DB.380 to your Ruger and Keltec look list.

I went to a gun show to pick up a "business carry" Ruger LCP and ended up leaving with a Diamondback as it just felt like a better made gun.

My job requires khaki pants as part of our "proper attire" and I'm in a mix of neighborhoods every week so it's always on me.

Because I'm reaching, stretching, climbing, etc. inside homes, hip carry is not possible for me due to possible brandishing, so pocket carry is my work carry situation. The Diamondback disappears with an Uncle Mike's pocket holster in either my front or back Docker pocket.

They're made right here in Florida and they shoot as well as my full size HKs. I've spoken to several dealers and a lot of local LEO's have been picking them up as their back-up guns. Just another possibility.

Im really hoping to find time to get my conceal carry this summer even though i do not own a pistol yet and when I do buy it prolly wont be a concealable pistol (1911). Im not old enough to carry yet but I believe you can take the test after being 21 years old (22 now) and I just want to support the right and add to the numbers here in missouri

Of course, body size makes a difference, but the full size 1911 can be concealed w/good leather and proper clothing, even in tropical weather.

It's just not worth being charged with a felony, the money your going to spend on an attorney, the embarrassment of having your name in the local paper. And when all said and done if the felony sticks you lose all your guns rights for life, you can't vote and you may get some time with a loving room mate named Bubba. Go apply for the permit!

I should add, I usually don't carry a weapon unless coming or going to the range, hunting, gun show, ect. Lots of people say I need one?????

I have got mine and I accept the fact if I ever use my firearm that I will be hiring a lawyer and going through a lot of crap. If I or someone I love, or someone who was in danger of being hurt by the bad guys I will make the decision to use my firearm. It is my right and I have exorcised the right to carry with all the concequences that may follow. I do not take it lightly.

dang, here is PA you fill out a single page application, attach a $30 Money Order, take it to the County Sherrif and in 15 mins you have a LTCF (License to Carry Firearm) permit for 5 years.

no course, no test.

I took the class from a family friend, but didn't have the money for both a pistol and the permit. I think NM may have lowered the cost of attaining the permit, but I am flat broke right now.

No course needed in Indiana. One page app, $75 money order for local fee and a $50 money order fee for state. Wait 4 to 8 weeks to come in mail and have LTCH permit for life. Good for open and concealed carry. Pretty reasonable IMO

Congrats, Psycodog! You won't regret the decision to do so.

Just remember the responsibility that comes with carrying a loaded firearm on your person. Be as familiar with the operation and location of your carry pistol as if it were your hunting rifle or FoxPro remote.

Good luck.

Here in Tulsa, we have a place than ran a "Special" on their course, $39.95. It was supposed to be 8 hours but only lasted about 6 hrs, including range time. We fired 50 rounds of ammo to qualify. Then $25.00 to the sheriff and $100.00 to the state. Piece of cake!!

I got my CCW years ago so I could carry legal in MGT. areas in the off season,(seems like back then there was a meth van around every curve)..
But I heard a good one today--stopped at local gun/archery shop and CCW permits came up in the storytelling the owner said

"The reason I carry is years I could go ten rounds with most anybody--but I has I get older it just easier to carry eight rounds for them".

Good quote, David, and as good a reason as any to have a CCW. Nice to have a little steel on you in the woods for sure in the off season. I know mine goes with me on my little nature/scouting hikes - you never know. Hope all is well up your way.

Wish I lived in PA. In Delaware (basicly) you take the course $$, get finger printed $$, get 5 local neighbers to sign for you, run an add in the local paper $$, then go to court, more $$$. if the judge says no or anyone called on your add. no ccw. and now your out of $$$!!

The Governor of MO signed the bill to drop the age from 23 to 21 and it will be effective August 28, 2011. There will be new regulations concerning the number of shots fired with a semi auto and a revolver and it will need to be documented by the instructor on the copy taken to the Sheriff's office. A lot of the insturctors are aware of the new regulations. Take the class and be ready to apply on Monday after the 28th which is on Sunday I believe.
