Do Silverfoxes hibernate?

Somebody's trollin' fer suckers, huh? May hibernator's?
This may be preaching to the choir, but here goes. Foxes do not hibernate but are active throughout the year and have been seen foraging at -50° F.
The color of the North American red fox varies from red to black, with four distinct phases, known as red, cross, silver and black. The belly of the red variety is often black. Black, silver, and cross foxes are melanistic varieties of the common red fox.

The cross fox varies a good deal in color, a typical skin shows black predominating on feet, legs, and underparts, the rest of the fur being red overlaying black. The change from cross to silver, shows an increase of black, overlaid with grayish white. In the black phase, white is eliminated from all parts with the exception of the tip of the brush.
Silver foxes vary from a grizzly shade to pure black. While the red fox is common, and the cross fox fairly so, the silver is scarce, and the black extremely rare. All four phases interbreed freely.

So the absense of silvers may have more to do with inter-phase hanky-panky than any thing else.

Nasa,

I wasn't really trolling for suckers but it looks like I caught one anyway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I was actually referencing our member, Silverfox from Williston, ND.

But, thanks for the read. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Randy Buker--this Silverfox doesn't hibernate either, just like NASA said. However, NASA, this Silverfox IS NOT absent for the reason you stated:

Well, on second thought NASA, maybe there was a littl "hanky-panky" goin' on before I was born /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Not sure it was "inter-phase" hanky-panky though  /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Now, nd coyote killer, the sole reason you are changing diapers instead of out shooting prairie dogs IS because you were doing too much "studing" and NOT enough "studying"!!!! However nd coyote killer, the result of your "studing" turned out to be pretty doggone nice--congratulations on the birth of Tristan!!!!

Sorry I'm not more active here in the summer, but there are just too many things keeping me busy. I do read the board almost every day, I just don't do a lot of posting. I might, however, be posting some information about my new acquisition. Just spoke for a Savage Varminter Low Profile repeater in the new .204 Ruger caliber. I'll be picking it up next Thursday. I also purchased a Leupold 6.5-20x40mm long range scope with wide crosshairs in the silver color to match the action and fluted barrel on the Savage. This rifle will NOT replace the .17 Remington, but will be a compliment to the fine .17 Remington. It will be a dual purpose rifle like my .17 Remington--used for both coyotes and prairie dogs.

I'm like a kid at Christmas now, waiting to get my new toy put together and out on the range and then in the field. I'll be posting some pictures, etc. once I get things put together.
