Doctors, go figure

A little over a year ago. I was due for a Steroid shot in my spine. I've had back issues for decades. Anyway, the anesthesiologist who was to give me my shot. insisted on me getting an up to date MRI. Prior to getting a shot.

My doctor called me a few days later as to the MRI findings. He told me as my wife listened on. It looked like I had bone cancer. And should get follow up testing. My wife cried hearing that report. She asked me what will I do? I told her I'm not worried & will fight it. Trusting in God.

Days & weeks later. I endured 13-14? follow up tests. To either verify or deny I had bone cancer. Four doctors reviewed those medical findings.

After all of those tests. My doctor's final words were. "Well we don't believe you have bone cancer". I thought about those words & wondered why he could NOT tell me for a fact. I did not have bone cancer. He left me hanging as to clarity.

As I mulled over his words in the following days. I wondered Just how accurate doctors really are? I have come to the conclusion. It pretty much boils down to guess work/theorizing.

Reminds me of some one buying a lottery ticket. Guessing/theorizing they have a chance.

I was having wrist problems for about 10 years. Had an MRI done at great expense, doctor wanted to do surgery on it, with the cost being in the $20k range. I didn't and don't have insurance so I balked. I mentioned the problems to my chiropractor, he said it was not uncommon for people who work with their hands, that the muscles in the forearm are very tight and strong and pulled the wrist into itself. That all I had to do was deeply massage the forearm, to get those muscles to relax and loosen up. It worked, whenever it starts to hurt again I grind into the forearm with my thumb for a while.
The doctor that wanted to do surgery had this grand explanation of why it was, and how it was going to be fixed. He didn't have a clue.

Don't know if anyone read about this: there was a cancer doctor who had a 100% cure rate after he diagnosed patients with having cancer, sounds like someone you would want to go to. Only problem was that the people didn't have cancer to begin with and he put them through chemo and radiation treatments only for monetary gain on his behalf.
I have a friend that had an extremely sore toe, first doc. diagnosed it as a yeast infection, 2nd doc. and his intern also, the 4th doc. figured it out, blocked arteries and after open heart his toe is just fine, looks like 3 out of the 4 would have ended up contributing to a major problem for him down the road. Guess there is a reason they say to get a second, third, or even more opinions!

Every time I go to a Doc its "where does it hurt" " what have you done" "do you smoke, drink, drugs?"Lets try this or that, more tests. My dog is sick, I take it to the vet, the dog can't talk, the vet looks it over, gives it a shot and a couple pills, the dog is fine in a couple days. Are vets where we should be going? I said that to a doctor once, he laughed, but had no real answer.

One of my favorite doctors was a DVM before becoming a dermatologist. Works for me!

My Dr retired and was replaced by a younger Dr. My first visit he told me he had been practicing 8 years.
I said good. You ought to be ready to start Doctoring by now.

He wasn't though. He came from a teaching background and had little experience.

I call that book smart vs field smart. I'll take field smart anytime. Same as in hunting or any other human venture.

Doctors are in a Practice field...... let that set in.
Realize just how many time they refer to their occupations as just that "Practice".
My wife a nurse by trade will tell you that.
My statements are not to dummy them down but honestly they rely on statistics. They just will never admit they don't know. If you find one that will keep them they are probably the smartest in the field.

doctors should be treated like baseball. three strikes and you're out.

get sued and lose for gross medical malpractice where it was clearly avoidable and people died....You're Out
