Does anybody have problems with any Olympic events?

Well another Olympics is here and I am trying to get into it but with little success so far. I like alot of the skiing and sleding events but some are getting to me a little bit and it has been the only thing on when I have a chance to watch.

I have no problem with snowboarding whatsoever but I just cannot help but feeling that just should not be an Olympic event. Anytime interviewers want to know what tunes they are stoked up on while competing I just get a bad feeling about it. Granted if it were not for snowboarding the US would have trouble medaling.

While I love to cross-country ski it is almost unwatchable on TV, about as exciting as watching the entire Boston Marathon. With the biathalon adding shooting it almost makes it but they look like they are shooting beer cans with pellet guns. They need to add big bore rifles to the mix to make it a little better. Rather than worrying about slowing the breathing down while skiing to the next shoot let them mix in the fear of not seating the gun to their shoulder while they are at it.

Don't even get me going on ice dancing.

Does anybody else have any events that just should not be considered Olympic events?

I generally hate all the "X" games. Sure they look like a whole bunch of fun, but how can you take them seriously as a sport. I'm not suprised that the Americans are winning, most other countries are trying to compete in real sports.

Stu: Curling? You don't think curling should be an olimpic sport? Me either. The whole olimpic thing is kinda gay. Men /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif running around in spandex. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif Dose it make them go faster or something. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Advertisements run equal time with the game. The only thing I can watch is the ski jumping, if theres nothing else on the history channel.

I'm sure curling is a lot of fun. It just doesn't seem that something you can do with a beer in your hand is really an olympic sport /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

While watching some of the female participants......it makes me proud that at least our women look like women no matter what sport they choose. There are some truly ugly women from some of those places.....they had better be good at somethin.

I really like long track speed skating, so fast and graceful. I hate the figure skating. Is it just me, or have the outfits become "gayer" over the last few years.

Speaking of ugly women I think what set me off on this Olympics in the beginning was when "they" paraded out Yoko Ono in the pregame ceremonies. All I ever hear come out of here mouth is "please visualize whirled peas". I don't even like peas. I wish somebody would put a strip of hippie chrome over her lips whenever she gets up to speak in public.

When they switched the games to every 2 years I just kind of lost intrest. I don't kow why. When it was every 4 years I use to watch a lot of it.

I don't know much about figure skating but I do watch the ladies figure skating./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif I guess I am a leg man and those ladies have some great legs. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Of course I only look at the ones that are over 18 years old. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Katerina Witt or what ever her name was increadible! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I haven't watched any of the games so far this time around.

I quit watching them altogether. I once got a kick out watching some events like downhill skiing but for some reason I just don't care about them anymore. Too much hype I think.

I thought Summer was every 4 years and they just switched them up so that people had Olympics to watch every 2 years. i.e. Summer in '04 winter in '06 then summer in '08 etc.

I agree that curling would be a good drinking game. Just like shuffle board at the bars, except even better because of the ice set your beer on. Not sure it belongs in the Olympics.

Somehow the games just aren't really grabbing me this time. I caught some of the snowboard-cross races last night, that was pretty cool.

I generally like watching them. I dunno if it's the way NBC is handling the coverage or what, but it just isn't working like usual.

Yea that is what I meant. It still means that there are Olympics every other year. I haven't watched much of the Olympics in over 15 years or so.

I notice there is absolutely no Olympic buzzz this time around. We usually watch quite a bit of the Olympic coverage. The events I've seen were hooo hummmm at best. Snow Boarding and Mogals(sp) wouldn't interest me even if they lite people on fire and wrestled in the nude. Looks like alot of fun but thats about all the interest I have in it.

For me the olympics were reduced when the professionals were allowed to compete. We can see those over piad babies any time. I liked seeing new faces laying it all on the line for the fun of sporting alone (I'm not nieve, I know there has always been money in the Olympics). I also like the the odd sports that are rarely seen in America, and yes that includes curling. To me the Olympics are as much a cultural exchange as they are a series of sporting events.

One more thing, NBC restricting Olympic coverage and absolutely stopping visual images from being shown on other networks is doing more harm than good for the games, at least here in America.
