Does Anyone Actually Use an Encore?

Or do you just see them used on outdoor shows that T/C sponsors? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have actually rarely encountered anyone using on in the field.

If you have one, how do you like it, & the way it shoots?

Thanks,

Barry

Go over to GBO there are guys spending $1000 to make them shoot on par with a $350 700 adl and then freak out when you ask them why...I have never seen one in the field, anywhere, must be an eastern thing.

I shoot one. I have .223, .50 ML, and 12 guage ML. The 223 shoots MOA. I enjoy it but it does not replace my bolt guns. I do use them just for the chalenge of single shot.

But yes I am in the east. So it could be an eastern thing.

I have one and it shoots great. I have done some mods, but nothing was expensive. My 22-250 barrel is super accurate. I have a .243 barrel that I haven't worked up a load for yet, but it shows good potential with factory and some starting loads I've tried. I've carried mine while predator hunting for several years now and have killed deer with my 50 cal. ML barrel. I've met quite a few folks that hunt with them here in So. Utah. I've never seen one that came out of the box not needing a trigger job.

We have all of our pressure equipment attached to them. It is easy to machine the barrels to accept the transducers. I don't know anyone that hunts with them though.

I have one in .25-06 and .50 ML. The .25-06 is MOA. I took my deer with it last year and shot some coyotes with it. I have a Remington 700 ADL in .243 also but I find myself shooting the Encore more. The way the stock is shaped seems to fit me better.

There are several fellows in this area who use them with the muzzleloader barrels. But, the regular barrels are too expensive and not sufficiently accurate (on average) to justify buying over one of the less expensive bolt actions.

Buying a Encore for shooting centerfire calibers in a shoulder firearm is sort of like buying a unicycle. LOL

I have one in .50 ML and it is accurate. You will see them in my state fairly frequently since centerfire isn't allowed during deer season except a select group of handgun calibers. Last year was the first time you could use a centerfire rifle but it had to be in one of the handgun calibers. BUT....if you want to hunt coyote using a .50 BMG it's perfectly legal. Go figure.

Only on TV. Nobody around here uses 'em.......

i agree..i've yet to see a guy in the field with one..not "sayin" there a bad set-up..to be honest i really don't know..seem's like everybody that has a hunting show on the boob-tube like's "em" though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gifmaybe cuzz their getting endorsment's to shoot them..just a thought.

I have one and I love it. So far I have a 22-250 and a 35 Whelan barrel and I plan on getting more. Both shoot great and it's a very easy gun to work on or customize. I did a trigger job and a few other minor things to it for around $20 (and I'm not a gun smith) and that was all she needed. I also like the idea of having only one shot because it means that the shooter is confident in his shooting abilities and responsible enough to make the shot count. I do own more rifles than just the Encore but it's my favorite.

Started with .223 and 7 mm Rem. Mag.

Had a custom barrel built in .25 X.307 by Chase Mountain.

The first two will do 1/2" groups at 100 yrds, the .25 will prove 1/4" at the same range.

Did my own trigger job, breaks at 2.5 lbs. no creep, no over travel.

As with every brand, some of T/C's barrels are less than good, some are great.

I like the platform, like being able to improve them myself. The single shot has made me a better hunter by forcing me to really think about my shots.

YMMV.

Oh yeah, almost forgot, have a .223 barrel in to Mike Bellm right now for re-chamber to 225 Winchester improved, should be a neat little .22 c.f. round, and lets me get rid of the crappy T/C throat.

I like the ability to have a quick follow up shot, regardless of how confident you may be it could make the difference between lost game and dead game.Having a single shot doesnt make you a better hunter, just unprepared for the eventaulity of needing a quick backup.Nobody who carries a rifle with a magazine plans on needing that second shot,we ALL do what we can to make all kills one shot kills,we dont depend on it,but we have it when we need it,any hunter whos says he has never neede that second shot is either very inexperienced or FOS.

I'm actually the only one in our hunting crew that doesn't use one. My dad bought one about 6 years ago. My brother liked it so much that he bought one a year later and then my dad's friend just bought his a year ago. All three of them love the rifles. All their barrels ranging from .22-250 to .338 Win Mag all shoot MOA. My dads and brother's .22-250 barrels are extremely accurate. I like the platform and I soon as I can scratch up some extra cash I'll be buying one of my own. And I live out west, so it's not just an eastern thing.
As far as follow up shots, they all practice at the range on reloading quickly. I hunt with a Ruger No.1 and have no problem getting a follow up shot on running coyotes. Never needed to follow up on a deer though.

Not much excitement about them. For one thing it's a single shot so you actually have to employ hunting and stalking skills to hunt with one.

Being a single shot they are not belt fed and spray and pray doesn't work with them.

I have one in 19 caliber Calhoon Hornet, 35 Whelen and 223AI. One minus they have is they are heavy. Biggest group was a .634 with the 19, and that was fire form loads, .4 and .5 are the norms when I'm not shaking like a dog crappin' Peach seeds.

Nothing wrong with an Encore.

By the way, I'm from the East too. East Minot, North Dakota.

Best wishes, Bill

I normally do not need a second shot on deer, but I have several times taken 3 does out of a group with my Encore, (limit here in TN is 3 a day), and the Methodist Men from our church try to put 50 a year into the Hunters for the Hungry program. That works with our management scheme of reducing doe numbers, and pleases the farmers in our area, as crop deprivation is a serious matter here.

Reloading the Encore fast enough to take several deer out of a group has not been a problem.

My feeling is a full magazine does not make up for judgement in taking or not taking a shot, or practice with a weapon.
