Does anyone make shooting sticks that are worth using?

First of all...I don't want to make my own. I've done it and prefer commercial sticks.

Ok, here's the deal. I've been using Stoney point shooting sticks for the last couple years. My first pair was the model that extends to sitting/kneeling length. They have been great...no problems.

I thought it would be handy to have the pair that extends to standing length for the times where standing is advantageous. So, I ordered the SP Exlorers. My dad also got a pair.

Fast forward a couple months. I'm calling and call in a double that comes in to my hard left where I wasn't exactly expecting them. I pivot to shoot - snap. They go running. I shoot one, but the other is gone.

A couple weeks later my dad snaps his. They are not being abused or misused.

Bushnell owns Stoney Point and their customer service has been great. They sent replacement yokes for free.

Then this week, mine get knocked off the table and break. These things SUCK. I don't know if they changed the plastic or what, but my old pair is still fine. I don't know why they don't just make a metal yoke and charge more...I'd gladly pay for something that's not going to break at the least opportune time.

I know Bog Pod's yoke is platic too.

Does anyone make a pair that are made to be used?

Primos Trigger Stick. They have been used for many things they where not designed for. Never abused though. They have been holding up fine.

I know the handle is Magnesium but I cant recall what the Y is made out of off the top of my head.

I know you said that you don't want to make your own, but if the options out there aren't working, why not custom tailor some to your needs. Maybe that's just the redneck side of me....

I never found any commercial ones I liked and would pay that kind of money for. A few bucks and some leftover hardware and I have several that work for all the situations I need.

I'd have to agree on Primos Trigger Sticks, bought my dad a set and used them when I made the annual trip to Colorado, they work damm well.

A little pricey, but in this case, SEEM to be worth every penny.

I have seen and heard alot of complaints directed towards Stoney Point since Bushnell bought them out. I have two sets of the rapid pivot bipods and both sets are about six years old now and not a problem with either one. The new ones with the grey rubber are breaking left and right when used in the cold. I would steer clear of the Bushnell made Stoney Point products. If your not set on sticks I would suggest getting an older set of Stoney Point bipods with the black rubber yoke.

Yeah, I have a pair thats probably 4-6 years old and they are still going strong. That's why I bought the new pair, cause I liked them so much, but wanted the option of standing. The yoke is different than the old pair.

The new Stoney Points are a pice of crap.

Going to give these a try. Got a set of the older Stoney sticks and like them a lot. For $10, got to try them, like the idea of the legs being one piece. Thanks for the link.

I switched from the stoney point swivel to the Hunter Specialties. Had a few stoney points break, where they attach to the sling stud never stayed tight and trying to adjust them on uneven terrain sucked.

Makem spent 5$ on mine used 1/2 in dowels cut to length and rubber banded them together stuck to rubber bands on my rifle just slip the sticks under the bands on the rifle and sling it hands free if i could figure out how to post picks id show it off

The handle is magnesium. I'm not sure what material the Y is but it is metal. The grey stuff is a rubber compound for quite and stickyness.

You get what you pay for. These things will out last me. Unless I get stuck and need to start a fire.
