Does anyone own a 6.5x47 Lapua ?

Just one question:

Why can't all "discussions" be this informative, and this civil?

To be an informative discussion, factual material has to come from both sides

. I guess if you don't have any erudition to comment, one could just pull chit outa the air & insult till the thread gets locked

And one finally just to show that sometimes we do get snow (although usually not that much). Pic is not my x47 but a 6BR, (with small primer

NO you do NOT use a heater in N.C.

That rifle is sweet, I like it. Nice buck also.

Truth is, I wouldn't know what a crumpet was if someone knocked me upside the head with one. Just thought it sounded good.

For me the bottom line is, the 260 has cheaper brass available, greater case capacity which equals greater velocity, and more reliable ignition.

The advantages of the 6.5L are what? And don't say accuracy, cuz that is simply an unfounded opinion at best.

Truth is, I could happily tote either to a match or into the deer woods.

Just for fun, a couple views out of one of my treestands. Temps were in the teens:

I have a good friend that has chambered up a number of 6mm-6.5x47L's and 6.5x47L's and they have been shot in all kinds of extreme temps with no problems either way.

I have a 6.5x47L in a 15" MOA.
With Varget and 123 AMax's my first three shots at 100 after bore sighting and getting it close was under .2
I was very pleased and I am running right at 2700 fps.

My guess is that if you run the 120-130 bullets then it is a toss up, with the 6.5x47L running real close to the 260 with less powder.
I think with the 140's the 260 is going to be able to outrun the 6.5x47L though.
Haven't tested this to confirm though.

Good discussion.
I still think the 260 (both using Lapua brass) will outrun the 6.5x47L with all bullet weights, but I do not think it will be by that much(especially with 123's)-Enough to seriously make any difference on game or wind drift at distances most people will shoot.
Mine is a Douglas SS barrel 1-8 twist, tight neck chamber.

With all barrels, chambers, and throats being different, each of us will be getting different results to some degree.

Sure, did you know the temps can get down into the mid 50's some mornings
w00t.gif
. Actually, I was trying to find a cell pic of my truck themometer that says 4 degrees (we were out crow hunting). From time to time we do see cold temps. It's not every winter day we break under 20, but I have hunted several mornings in the teens. The heater keeps the real primer (my right pointer finger) from freezing up. I actually bought the heater when my son 1st started going with me (the reason for the tower box as well) but I tell you it's nice sometimes, now I got it!

Thanks, I do like the rifle alot myself! The deer was just a dink but he was good enough at the time. I was going to post a bunch of better bucks I had killed over the years but got bored during upload. I already had these pics on photobucket & is also a ML kill. For NC he was a good one

223 brass is much cheaper than both (if that is a decision maker) & neither one of us is too worried about brass cost or neither rifle would have custom actions with high end scopes. I believe you are waiting on some Lapua brass yourself??? Equal quality brass, the x47 is actually a couple $'s cheaper (if we get to pinching pennies). Also, my 7mag has more case capacity & will rip 140's much faster than either if I need faster. (it works well on our unlimited antlerless tags & no daily bag limit hunts & is accurate enough as seen below)

I still don't see the ignition thing being a problem. Although I still do believe, if you built ten 260's & ten x47s, all things equal, there would be more x47's in the top 5 most accurate rifles of the 20 rifles. When I built my rifle, I started off looking at the 6.5/06, then 260 & ended up with the 6.5x47 to fill my needs. If nothing else I like the oddity of the x47 I guess.

I'm game there! They truely are equal enough (in EVERY DEPARTMENT) to either having diminishing return. I'm sure I would be just as happy with 260.

Thanks, I enjoyed them. Here is a bonus pic I had on the photbucket . Just for fun too (I took it with a cell phone. It's the pond behind our house one morning coming out of the woods).
