I'm wondering what all you houndsmen use to transport your dogs. I'm wanting to strap a carrier down in the bed of my pick up. I don't trust him around town just in the bed. So far all I can find is those airline travel kind that are plastic and the 2 halves screw together. Those good enough or is there something a little bit beefier out there? It would be preferred if the carrier offered some protection from the sun or cold.

Dog is a 85lb shorthair pointer if it matters.

I have a dee zee its diamond plate and has some vents i throw some straw in there and durning the winter close the vents
 
i use a plastic kennel like you discribe when it is real cold out or we are gona travel a long way. if we arent going far i dont even strap it down. i dont use a dog box because i have too many trucks that i hunt out of and i dont want to change it from truck to truck all of the time.
