I was driving out to a friends property to do some calling yesterday and I usually keep my eyes open for some "opportunity dogs" on the way. I saw three dogs a few hundred yards out on the frozen lake basking in the sun, two were dead asleep and the third was up roving about. I quickly snuck in to the edge of the lake, about 75 yards off the highway and crawled up to a prone position to offer a vantage point. A few lip squeeks had the rover come in about 20 yards to the right of my safe shooting lane, skylined, of course. Never a shotgun when you need it. Well, he hung around for a few moments and started heading back to the safety of the frozen lake and I could not get him to stop at a spot where I felt I could shoot and recover the pelt. Also, being alone I did not want to venture onto the ice should I happen to break thru. He trotted out a few hundred yards and laid down and soaked up some rays. I think this is what he was doing /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif but...
